Former Bad Boy Records rapper Ma$e recently discussed his thoughts on Young Money star Drake and why the platinum-selling hip-hop artist reminds him of himself.
In Mason Betha's perspective, there are only a few rap crews running hip-hop right now.
"There's really only three crews out there," Ma$e said, running through the options and crossing them out. "MMG -- if I was on MMG, it would be kinda the same as being with G-Unit -- and the only other [crews are] YMCMB and G.O.O.D. Music." Out of those three, G.O.O.D. was the clear winner, as Ma$e already has an established working relationship with Kanye West, but what about the second option? "There's only two people that I would work with, and it would have to be one of those two, but the second one is probably gonna surprise many of you," Ma$e told the audience. "The only two that would make sense to me would be Kanye or Drake -- even though he doesn't have a label, those are the only two that I would entertain." (MTV)
He then drew up comparisons of himself to platinum-selling rap star Drake.
Ma$e was right in predicting that his answer would surprise some people, but he has his reasons for wanting to work with the Toronto rapper. "I think that he's the closest to what I believe I would've been, if I didn't leave music," he explained. "I like his ability to express how he feels, not being afraid, and he can really rap. So that's really the only two I would think about." (MTV)
Just like Ma$e used to do in the late 1990's, Drake has had an impact on female fans including one who tattooed his name on her forehead last year.
"The funny thing is, I didn't know who Drake was, I figured it was her hood or some sh*t, not some goofnugget R&B dude. She was really psyched about it. She had the sh*tty font all picked out on her iPhone ready to go and was pretty adamant about putting it on her forehead. She didn't say a word about what it meant to her, some of the guys at the shop asked her, and she just kinda giggled at them. When I printed up the first image of the lettering, she wanted me to go bigger, so that it went pretty much from each side of her hairline to the other. I thought she shaved hereyebrows for the procedure, so when I put the stencil on the first time, it was right over her (missing) eyebrows, but she had me enlarge it a bit and push it up towards the hairline. But yeah, she acted as if she had planned it out for a while; though I'm not really sure how much extended coherent thought could actually go into getting such a stupid tattoo on your forehead." Although embraced by many, former Ruff Ryders leader DMX aired out Drizzy last year.
"I don't like Drake. It's nothing that he did to me, He actually is talented. He's very talented," X explained in an interview. "Yeah, I don't like him. It ain't nothing personal. I don't like his stuff. He is talented. He has a little wordplay here and there, but when I see him and hear him it's like -- 'Money, I'm not rockin with that.'" (VIBE)
