News: After Rick Ross' MMG Power Move, Young Jeezy Brings In His Reinforcement
Wednesday, Dec 12, 2012 9:30AM
A day after Maybach Music Group leader Rick Ross brought his company over to Atlantic Records, Atlanta rapper Young Jeezy has followed suit with his Corporate Thugz Entertainment label.
Jeezy announced the big, unexpected power move in a statement this week.
Rick Ross isn't the only boss bringing his talents to Atlantic Records. His rival Young Jeezy has partnered with the label on his new venture CTE World. The Atlanta rapper was previously named Senior Vice President of A&R at Atlantic. In his position, he will find, develop, and launch the careers of new talent. The new imprint will operate under Jeezy's direction in conjunction with Atlantic Chairman Craig Kallman. "This is a fresh start for the CTE brand as we re-launch it," said the Snowman. "This is why I chose to wipe the slate clean and create an outlet to support and nurture new artists to the best of my ability." To celebrate the announcement, Young Jeezy will drop his new mixtape It's Tha World on Wednesday. (Rap-Up)
Buzz about Rick Ross' MMG label shift heated up the Internet hours prior.
Now this comes out of nowhere. During his chat with Miami's 99 Jamz last night, Rick Ross announced that his imprint Maybach Music Group has moved from Warner Music to its subsidiary Atlantic Records. The revelation wasn't caught on video which we posted but the radio channel did confirm it on their Twitter. This is an interesting turn of events since Young Jeezy is currently the Senior VP of A&R at Atlantic Records which means he's bound to have a big say in the music MMG releases from here on. Or we suppose. (HHNM)
Ricky Rozay officially made the announcement during a radio interview.
"I got another announcement as well. I'm excited for this year we got coming up man. This is really huge. MMG we just merged with Atlantic Records. It's the biggest move of the year. We gonna leave it right there," Rick Ross said in an interview. "I'm signed as a solo artist to Def Jam. And Meek Mill, Wale, we all MMG at the end of the day." (99 Jamz)
Over the summer, Jeezy landed a position as Atlantic Records' senior vice president of A&R.
Taking to his Twitter page today (Aug. 9), Jeezy acknowledged his new position -- in a message that was also retweeted by Atlantic -- by saying "From the streets to the Boardroom. SVP of A&R at Atlantic Records I am. Let's Get it!" The news was reportedly broken by DJ Greg Street of V103 out of Atlanta, and was confirmed by Jeezy's production coordinator DJ Folk last night.
