Young Money rapper Nicki Minaj recently let her emotions run wild on New York radio station Power 105.1's "The Breakfast Club" hosts and accused them of not being familiar with her latest music.
Prior to things smoothing out, Minaj questioned DJ Envy's lack of Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded The Re-Up airplay.
"Why don't you have the songs cued up though? I wanna hear 'High School,' I wanna hear 'Hell Yeah,' I wanna hear 'I'm Legit,' I wanna hear 'Up in Flames.' Y'all don't even know these songs. You guys clearly don't support me, neither does Clue, but that's neither here nor there. Those are the songs that I would like y'all to play. I don't understand why I'm coming to radio and y'all don't even have my songs ready.[...]That's the main focus of the kid coming to the radio. *banging her fists on the table* When the kid comes to the radio, the kid comes to hear her songs on the radio! What music are you playing? Don't cut this off. This is what I don't like about y'all New York people. Y'all d-k ride stuff that got a big name on it. It's other great records on there so let's go. Like, stop, y'all need to start trying to break records and start listening to people's music. This is a continuation of what I was saying to (DJ) Clue last night, and Clue you ain't even up yet. You lazy. Bye." (Necole Bitchie)
She also had some dicey words for "Breakfast Club" co-host Angela Yee.
"How are y'all on radio, especially if you know an artist is about to come up to your show and you know, she just put out a video...what would make you not watch it? When I go to the UK my fans are like, 'Oh you always have the best interviews out there,' because it's a knowledgeable interview. They know what they're talking about. They've done the research. Even when I do magazine interviews it's such a turnoff when people don't know anything that they're talking to me about. Like, how are you gonna ask me about a video and you haven't even seen it. The video is four minutes." (Necole Bitchie)
Last summer, Nicki spoke on ditching rival station Hot 97's Summer Jam concert after getting blasted by one of its employees hours prior.
"Just run the entire interview. Don't chop nothing else. I will tell you this one last thing: When I sat in the restaurant last night with my team, Beenie [Man] said, Nicki: Do you know what would happen if someone in Jamaica went on stage last night before I performed to the crowd? He said n*ggas would be in the hos-pit-al. But let me tell you: Nothing is worse than going home and having not played a gig. I just wanna leave with saying this: I'm gonna make this up to my fans. And I want my fans to know, nothing, no radio station, no one can alter our relationship. I have a very personal relationship with my fans, and I'm truly sorry that people's nights were ruined. You guys have no idea, I've gone through hell and back. I'm not a quitter. I show up and perform. I went with my team's decision, and I made history, and the next time I come out, people won't disrespect me. And for once, I feel like I've really really shown the world, I love and respect myself, and people aren't gonna go there any more. And you know what, Flex? Hit me on the email, it's all good." ("Funkmaster Flex Show")
Hot 97's Peter Rosenberg ultimately caught the blame for Minaj's no-show after dissing her "Starships" record at the event.
"In addition to the morning show, I do an underground show on Sunday nights, I host all of our showcases, I interview underground artists at my house, that's kind of who I am," Rosenberg said. "So when I went out there, I wasn't really thinking about it, I was just trying to hype up all of the fans who were there to see Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, more of the underground acts. It just sort of came out. I did not anticipate the backlash." (TMZ)
