West Coast rapper Kurupt reportedly handled all funeral-related costs a week after his ex-girlfriend Natina Reed passed away from getting struck by a vehicle in Georgia.
According to reports, Kurupt took care of the funeral tab this weekend.
Natina Reed's funeral is being held today in her hometown -- and TMZ has learned that rapper Kurupt, the father of her son, is covering all the expenses. Reed -- who passed away on October 26 after she was struck by a car -- is being laid to rest at the Abundant Life Church in Lithonia, GA. According to our sources, Kurupt -- the father of Reed's 10-year-old son Tren -- is footing the bill for service as well as for the gathering after. We're told Tren will remain in Kurupt's custody -- like he has for the past four years -- and that Kurupt hopes Tren will maintain a close relationship with Reed's family. (TMZ)
Last weekend, the rap veteran issued a statement on Reed's tragic passing.
Though they never married, Tha Dogg Pound rapper and Reed were engaged in the early 2000s and have a 10-year-old son, Tren Brown, together. Reed, who was crossing a street when she was struck, died two days shy of her 33rd birthday. On Sunday evening (October 28), Kurupt (born Ricardo Emmanuel Brown) expressed his profound loss and extended his gratitude for the outpouring of well-wishes in a statement to MTV News. "Myself and Tren, Natina's son, would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this tragic time," he said. "This is a tremendous loss to our family. Natina was a great person and I wish everyone had the opportunity to meet her and know her as I did." (MTV)
R&B group Blaque members Shamari Fears-DeVoe and Brandi Williams also issued a statement.
"We are devastated by the loss of our group member, sister and friend Natina Reed. Because of the enormous support of Blaque fans and our love for each another, Blaque officially reunited this fall and we were in the process of working on a new album and a reality show. Natina continuously embodied the pioneering spirit of Blaque and her undeniable creativity touched the hearts of fans everywhere. Natina was a mother, sister, accomplished songwriter, artist and friend. We ask for your prayers at this time for Natina's family. She will forever be missed and her global influence eternally felt. We thank God for the experiences we shared." (Statement)
Days after her untimely passing, police said her death still had gaps in it.
The Gwinnett County Police Department is seeking additional information to help explain the accidental death of Natina Reed of late-90s girl group Blaque. According to authorities, there are no other witnesses to the car accident other than the driver and passenger in the red Honda Accord that hit Reed. "We're just trying to figure out why [Natina] went out into traffic like she did," Gwinnett County police spokesperson Corporal Edwin Ritter told MTV News. "We don't know why it happened, but we are looking into it now. If anyone can help us determine why she was there or explain why this happened, we'd like to speak to them." (MTV)
