With 50 Cent's new "My Life" anthem catching fire across music blogs and radio stations alike, SOHH hit up producer S1 to find out his reaction to the song's buzz this week.
Watching the record come together after piecing it a few years ago, S1 said the critical response has left him feeling blessed.
"It's pretty crazy. Me and my wife, we've been talking about it for the last few days. 50 got the record back in 2010 and when I met with him, he basically spit the verse and said he has the concept, 'It's going to be like this, talking about my life.' He spit his two verses to his rhymes to me while the beat was playing in his office and he was excited about it. He was like, 'This is going to be big.' To be at this point and just thinking about the conversation me and Fif had at his office with him just spitting his rhymes, seeing it all come into fruition like this, this is crazy. That little thing that was playing two and a half years, it's sprouted. It's just amazing." (SOHH)
He also addressed his take of producers often coping with unused beats landing on big projects years down the road.
"This is kind of one of those things I've come to expect," S1 added when asked about the song getting stashed away for a couple years. "It's really kinda confirmed what I already know. I like to stay working and plant seeds. I have producers that's up under me and I try to tell them that you don't really have any control over who uses your joints, what albums you're going to make. All we can do is get in the studio, make the best music we can and get it to people. That's planting the seeds. You never know when it's going to come back to you. As long as you keep working and planting seeds, something is going to come out of it." (SOHH)
Earlier today, Fif called "My Life" one of his biggest tracks to date.
"The choppers spot light in the my life video is a metaphor for fame. You can run but you can't hide from it. SMSaudio," Fif tweeted November 29th.
"MY LIFE is one of the biggest songs I'v ever wrote. I'm not back, I'm better thank for making me work harder.SMSaudio" (50 Cent's Twitter)
Last week, S1 talked about how he had to play the waiting game before "My Life" landed on Fif's new Street King Immortal album.
"So for the next year or so 50 Cent would mention me in all his interviews about me producing on his album. Through the grapevine I was hearing Eminem hopped on the record then from an Executive at Interscope Records I was told Adam Levine was gonna be on the record. Fast forward through 3 mixtapes and 1 album later, the song stood the test of time and its about to come out now as a single. Nobody but God because its very rare that an artist holds on to a beat for 2 ½ years with the face of music changing so fast these days. Oh I forgot to mention Just Blaze called me out the blue about a year ago. He was in the studio with Fif and they was trying to see which one of my beats to put Eminem on. Fif was saying the beat that is now "My Life" but Just Blaze was trying to talk him into using the other beat that Fif wanted from me. Crazy huh!" (iStandard Producers)
