New York rapper French Montana recently revealed an upcoming collaboration with estranged hip-hop artist Ma$e and gave his thoughts on a possible Bad Boy Records reunion.
Although Montana said he could see the Harlem rapper returning to his former label, French believes the decision is completely up to him.
"Ma$e [is on my new project]. Defintely shout-out to Ma$e, he's on there. [I'm keeping Ma$e working] Yeah, that's good. I just like working with my peoples, man," Montana told DJ Drama. "[Would he ever re-sign with Bad Boy?] Of course. Yeah, it's got to be up to him. Ma$e is Ma$e. He still looks like he's 19." (Shade 45)
Earlier this year, French revealed Ma$e's involvement on his upcoming Excuse My French debut album.
When contacted by Billboard, Ma$e's camp deflected questions about his future plans. Reps from Maybach didn't return calls for comment. According to Montana, Ma$e is serving as an A&R representative on Montana's forthcoming Bad Boy debut, "Excuse My French," as well as appearing on the remix of Montana's "Everything's a Go." "I'm not sure what kind of decisions he's going to make," Montana says, "[but] I would love to see him in my camp." (Billboard)
Back in April, the new Bad Boy star spoke on linking up with Mason Betha in the studio.
"We were in a Miami studio last night and Ma$e just stopped by," Montana exclusively told XXL. "We were just workin' on my album. We recorded two songs together--me, Ross and Ma$e. You might hear [Ma$e] on either my album [Excuse My French] or Ross' [God Forgives, I Don't] or both." Although the current 2012 XXL Freshman wouldn't divulge any further details on the songs, he did mention that Ma$e is sounding pretty sharp and this collaboration with himself, Rozay and the former Bad Boy has been in the works. "We been planning it," French said. "Ma$e sounds good, sound like he never left. His flow is crazy. We're going to let the world hear soon enough. Stay tuned. Just stay tuned." (XXL Mag)
Over the spring, Ma$e promised his latest return to the hip-hop spotlight is legit.
"Flex, let me tell you something before I go, though," Ma$e said, "I can only do music if I can do it the way I can do it. That's what be making me stop. I don't want to do music in a box. Like everybody say what I can't do and he can't say this, but if you need me to come do something for you, I've gotta be able to come to that event. So I'm taking all the limitations off. They gonna have to pray for me. I regret not giving myself room for growth. That's what I regret. I went so hard left that I didn't really leave no room to be an individual, a human being. ... I still put God over music any day. I just didn't give myself room to grow. I went from one extreme to another extreme." ("The Funkmaster Flex Show")
