[After years of never meeting, Fashawn and Murs finally met up and took it straight to the studio. Creating an album with virtually no features--something you don't see much anymore--the California MCs have a message for hip-hop's new generation. And it's all on their collaborative project, This Generation. Need a reason to buy this LP? Check out Fashawn's top five reasons to purchase their lyric-driven album.]
1. First-Time Collaboration
Murs and I have never collaborated prior to this album, so it was just an exciting process. Hearing the music in it's entirety at the end of the process was [great]. I think the fans are gonna be just as excited as we were making the album when they hear it.
2. Superior Produce
The production is superior and better than anything out right now. It was an honor to rhyme over the beats. It was the perfect soundtrack this movie.
It's the best thing since pants with pockets, and it's better than water. [Laughs]. I think it equates with water in a sense. The ingredients for this album--it's political, there's songs for parties, there's songs for chants. There's just real lyrics, it's hardcore , like rap and alternative. It's like Limp Bizkit meets NWA.
4. This Generation
It's really about this generation, and how a culture can create kids like A$AP Rocky and Kendrick Lamar. People who you don't even know where they're from--the sound is authentic and organic. You can't even trace where they're from and that's what we really wanted to emphasize about this generation. We just wanted to document time as it is right now 'cause we feel like it doesn't matter how old are, we all the live in the same age; the same time zone basically, so that's what This Generation is all about.
5. Not Feature Driven
Me and Murs had a lot to say, so we didn't really link with too many people. A couple names came up, but no one really fit so [we only worked with a few people].
You decide. Will you purchase Fashawn and Murs' collaborative album?
