Midwest rapper Nelly has stepped forward to speak on making headlines Thursday (October 11) for getting arrested in Texas on drugs and gun possession charges last night.

The St. Lunatic leader resorted to Twitter to address the publicized incident.

"I'm not gone front I'm MAD as Hell about this sh#t!!2have some1 who works 4u n who u call a friend 4 ova 10years jeopardize ur life WTF?," Nelly tweeted Thursday evening.
"That being said he was not only an employee but he was fam some1 who protected my life 4many years! No excuses for wad he did!!!!"
"My heart goes out to his fam and is kids!!!!" (Nelly's Twitter)

He also issued a formal statement to separate himself from the negative press.

"It is my understanding a member of my staff made an unfortunate decision to bring unlawful materials onto our tour bus that resulted in his arrest this morning, October 11th. Neither I nor anyone else on the tour bus was aware of his decision to bring these on board. Law enforcement officials in Sierra Blanca, Texas did not press charges against anyone other than that individual." (Miss Info TV)

Reports of Nelly's arrest flooded the Internet early Thursday afternoon.

Rapper Nelly was detained last night in Texas while police officers searched his tour bus -- and found HEROIN in addition to a loaded gun ... and MASSIVE amounts of weed ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ. According to law enforcement sources, Nelly's bus was stopped at a border patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca -- and a police canine detected the presence of drugs. We're told cops pulled the bus over -- and after performing a search, they found 36 small baggies of heroin (totaling .64 ounces) and over TEN POUNDS of marijuana inside a large green duffel bag (an amount roughly the size of a large bed pillow). Cops also say they found a loaded .45 caliber pistol. (TMZ)

One of his tour bus riders took responsibility for the crime.

There were seven people riding on Nelly's bus at the time -- including the rapper -- and they were all detained during the search. According to law enforcement sources, one of the passengers -- a guy named Brian Keith Jones -- admitted the drugs and the gun were his. He was subsequently placed under arrest. Nelly and the remaining five were let go. Calls to Nelly's reps were not returned. FYI -- this is the same checkpoint where multitudes of celebs have been busted for drugs in recent years ... including Willie Nelson, Chace Crawford, Armie Hammer, Snoop Dogg, and Fiona Apple. (TMZ)
