West Coast rapper Kendrick Lamar has addressed criticism shot his way courtesy of former Bad Boy artist Shyne days after he labeled the new good kid, m.A.A.d city debut "trash."
Instead of exploding on Shyne, Lamar simply downplayed the ex-convict's critique.
"It's really no response [to him]," Lamar tells Hip-Hop Wired, when we caught up with him at the Samsung Galaxy Note II event in Los Angeles. "I'm not a sensitive guy, so that's his opinion. Can't stop what the world thinks, so yeah, that's him." With first week sale predictions flying above the 200K range , the Compton native is humbled by the support. "It feels great, lets me know that people still wanna' hear good music, real music. Music that has a connection, rather than just one artist, or one record on the radio." (Hip Hop Wired)
Lamar has also jumped on Twitter to embrace the chatter his LP has sparked.
"I love it. This is hip hop. Something exciting again.Talk about it. Debate about it. This is the culture.," he tweeted October 26th. (Kendrick Lamar's Twitter)
While Kendrick has kept quiet, fellow West Coast rapper Game has lashed out at Shyne.
"Whenever a shot is taken at Kendrick, I think that's the pool I'ma dive in head-first, whether there is water there or not," Game said in an interview. "Personally, I think Shyne should just back away and let the kid breathe and if not, I don't know, we might find ourselves face-to-face or sh-- that nobody really wants to see happen. Kendrick is non-confrontational, he's not a thug, he's not a gang banger, he's just a dope, hip-hop lyricist, but he's from the streets and he got a lot of ties out here and a lot of good hood n---as with him and I'm one of them." Shyne used Twitter earlier this week to give his take of the LP.
"Yoooo! Kendrick Lamar is talented with a lot of potential but his album is traaaaash!," he tweeted Tuesday (October 23) night.
"The game Documentary even 50 get rich or die trying lived up to the hype and were classics. Good kid is trash!" (Shyne's Twitter)
