[Each week, SOHH asks two entertainment personalities to name who they feel is the most underrated emcee in hip-hop. After DJ Muggs gave Scarface the title last week, Rocksmith co-founder Erik Marino crowns Sadat X SOHH Underrated.]

Who do I feel is SOHH Underrated? That's a good question. I would say Sadat X is pretty underrated.

Obviously he got burn in Brand Nubian. When he was with Brand Nubian, he had his shine. But as a solo artist, I just feel like he never [got that same shine]. He came out with the sound bombings and the rock 'ish era stuff but he never really got the respect he deserved as a solo artist.

I feel like he has one of the most unique voices in hip-hop. It's so important. Not to mention the lyricism, but a lot of times you have to kind of listen to the voice. Your voice as a rap artist is your instrument. You might like a particular emcee's voice, obviously because you're going to be listening to it for a whole album.

I know a lot of very talented emcees but they just don't have really good voices. Sadat X is just very unique and stood out.

I've been a fan of Sadat X, I'm in my early 30's now, so at least since Brand Nubian. The earliest things I was listening to were Public Enemy, Run-DMC. My first cassette was Run-DMC, like many people's first cassettes.

I'm from Miami, originally, so it was a bit harder to get New York music. In my area, it was dominated by 2 Live Crew, but every now and again, we'd get a hold of some New York stuff. Then "Yo! MTV Raps" came on the air and that changed everything.

Rocksmith is a streetwear brand based in Brooklyn, NY. The brand was born in Tokyo but now call New York home. We are deeply rooted in Hip Hop and and sometimes referred as "Your Favorite Rappers, Favorite Brand". Rocksmith is currently sold in over 300 boutiques and our first flagship store is located in the historical LES at 153 1/2 Stanton St, New York, NY.
