New Orleans rapper Curren$y recently discussed his relationship alongside longtime friend/rapper Wiz Khalifa and just how far he has come up from their pre-fame days.
In Curren$y's perspective, Khalifa is currently enjoying the riches of his success.
"We're like [video game Street Fighter's] Ryu and Ken," adds Curren$y, who remembers the days of going half on Chinese food plates with Wiz while recording their collaborative mixtape, How Fly. "Ken had the uppercut with all the fire and sh*t. Ryu had a more controlled uppercut, but he's the one that showed Ken the uppercut." Curren$y cautions that Wiz's level of success isn't for everyone. "He's like f*cking Puff Daddy right now," says Spitta. "People be like, 'You should be right there with your brother.' But I'd rather lay low and kick it. It's super awesome to be Puff Daddy but it's a gift and a curse." (Complex)
This year, Khalifa just missed the top ten of Forbes' Hip-Hop Cash Kings list.
1. Dr. Dre - $110 million 2. Diddy - $45 million 3. Jay-Z - $38 million 4. Kanye West - $35 million 5. Lil Wayne - $27 million 6 Drake - $20.5 million 7. Birdman - $20 million 8. Nicki Minaj - $15.5 million 9. Eminem - $15 million 10. Ludacris - $12 million 11. Pitbull - $9.5 million 12. Rick Ross - $9 million (tie) 12. Wiz Khalifa - $9 million (tie) 14. Akon - $6 million 20. Timbaland - $6 million 20. Tech N9ne - $6 million (Rap-Up)
Over the winter, Wiz revealed his intent to make $100 million this year.
"Oh yeah, man, I'm going to make $100 million this year," he said. "No doubt, $100 million. The new mixtape [will] get everybody ready and get their wallets open." Wiz was clearly in high spirits last night, and although he's likely in for another big year, $100 million is a bit of a long shot. In the five years I've charted hip-hop's top earners, only 50 Cent has taken home nine figures in a single year (in 2008, thanks to a $100 million windfall from the sale of his stake in VitaminWater parent Glaceau to Coca-Cola). Only 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Diddy and Kanye West have earned nine figures in the past five years combined. (Forbes)
Outside of the fame and riches, Khalifa is currently expecting a baby boy with fiancée Amber Rose.
It's the new VMA red carpet accessory: the baby bump. A year after Beyonce's burgeoning belly stole the show, Amber Rose trotted out her own swollen stomach alongside fiance Wiz Khalifa. The couple confirmed the rumored pregnancy to MTV's Sway Calloway with requisite belly rubs and a kiss from Khalifa. But it wasn't all sweetness and glamour, Rose's lacy long dress notwithstanding. "I'm hot and my feet hurt. I want to go sit down," Rose, perhaps most famously known as Kanye West's ex, told Calloway. Khalifa gave away the baby's sex to rapper Calloway: "You're going to have to teach him how to rap." (USA Today)
