News: Webbie Hints At Bogus Female Beatdown Reports, Victim Speaks Out
Friday, Sep 14, 2012 5:08PM
Less than 24 hours after reports claimed Southern rapper Webbie got busted for physically attacking a female, both Web and the victim have come forward.
Although Web has not made a statement himself, he did re-tweet a claim by associate Justin Baker which suggested the violent rumors are false.
"@OfficialWebbie already out of jail and that woman stole from him so don't start no dumb ass rumors about him beating up women #Salute," Webbie re-tweeted September 13. (Webbie's Twitter)
The alleged female victim has released a statement through her attorney downplaying the reports.
"Contrary to recent media reports and what can only be described as an exaggeration of actual events, "Webbie" (Webster Gradney, Jr.) did not "brutally" attack my client and, fortunately,my client did not suffer injury requiring medical attention. The "robbery" was unfortunately a non-malicious attempt, by the accused, to deny the woman resources he had given her to leave the city, via air transportation, following their domestic argument. The accused did not "meet" my client at a party but rather they had been residing together, off and on, for more than 18 months. Though a rocky relationship, my client and Mr. Gradney spent the evening together after being separated briefly. The early morning assault is domestic related and should be treated as such. While neither my client nor I condone acts of violence, especially domestic, we will not conspire with the media or officials to paint an inaccurate picture of Mr. Gradney or the events. We will not conspire with anyone to deliberately destroy Mr. Gradney's reputation, life and/or career. Neither my client nor this case should be used as a tool to send another "black rapper" to prison for any other case or charge that is unrelated to these events. Both parties want nothing more than to move beyond this matter. It's an unfortunate situation and myclient will, however, cooperate with officials as required by law. [sic]" (HHDX)
Details of the rapper's arrest hit the Internet yesterday (September 13) afternoon.
Rapper Webbie has been arrested for battery and robbery -- after allegedly kicking a woman down a flight of stairs and filching $340 from her pocketbook ... but Web tells us, none of it's true. According to a police report filed in Baton Rouge, LA, Webbie is accused of attacking a woman inside a Chase Suite Hotel early this morning after being banned from the premises -- kicking her down two sets of stairs before swiping her purse and stealing $340 in cash. The details surrounding the altercation are unclear. (TMZ)
Despite the accusations, Webbie's camp immediately denied he took part in the crime.
According to the report, Webbie was arrested on the scene at approximately 2:30 AM. A rep for Webbie tells TMZ, the rapper met the woman behind the accusations at a party last night -- but he never attacked her, or stole her money. The rep admits Webbie took money from the woman's purse -- but insists the money is his ... and the woman in question had stolen it from him. The rep says Webbie -- who was released today on $9,000 bond -- plans to fight the accusations. (TMZ)
