Grammy-winning rapper Lupe Fiasco is on the verge of waving goodbye to the rap game for good after revealing his upcoming Food & Liquor 2 will likely be his last album.
Fiasco said the pains he has endured from the music industry have pushed him away from wanting to continue the career of a recording artist.
"This album will probably be my last...its been a pleasure to have all my fans provide so much love an inspiration for me and my family," he tweeted September 5th.
"but my heart is broken and i see no comfort further along this path only more pain. I cannot participate any longer in this..."
"My first true love was literature so i will return to that...lupe fiasco ends here..."
"To @ThelupENDblog and Sean the robot...Thank u brother A gift...Unfinshed...but still fitting #ATpt2"
"peace and much love 2 ya!...." (Lupe Fiasco's Twitter)
Last month, Fiasco dug deep into his reasoning behind considering an early retirement.
"It's not too much of a drastic, revolutionary thing. It's the end of one thing, stepping into another capacity now. Music business is a very taxing thing, I've done it for a long time. I've been doing it for like 12, 13 years, in various capacities. Major labels, almost every major label. And it's just time to do something else. I don't really look at it as being that crazy of an idea. I don't really look at it like that. As soon as this contract is up, I'm going to step more into an independent space and have the freedom to do whatever we want." (Hard Knock TV)
He also hinted at getting offered a potential teaching position.
"Yeah, I got an offer, it's in the works," Lupe said when asked about the possibility of teaching in the future. "But it's not solid yet. It's something that kind of just came up -- very serious, but just kind of like, 'Okay -- go back to the drawing board, figure out what you want me to do, exactly, put a plan together and then let's go back to the table. So that's what's happening right now. If it all comes into fruition, I think it's something I'll definitely be doing." (Hard Knock TV)
If all goes accordingly, Food & Liquor 2 is slated to drop at the end of September.
Fiasco's album is still set for release on September 25 via Atlantic Records. The MC recently changed-up the marketing plan for his sequel to 2006's breakout Food & Liquor by including "Battle Scars" on the album and pushing it as his next single. Already an Australian chart-topper, which features down under singer Guy Sebastian, the track will go on sale in the U.S. on August 28. (RapFix)
