West Coast rapper Kreayshawn is putting her support behind President Barack Obama in the upcoming presidential election and recently explained the value in going out to vote this November.
While she can understand some people's lack of interest to vote, Kreay stressed the importance of standing up and going out come Election Day.
"I think it's important. For a while I thought the elections were kind of going on behind everyone's back because I felt like nobody was really talking about it and every day I watch the news and see so much stuff. So I think it's important just because even though people say your vote doesn't matter or either way, either person you pick it's the same result, it's just good to feel like, you know, whoever wins, you're like, 'Yeah! I wanted that person to win.' Nothing is ever going to go the way we want it to but I'm definitely voting for Obama this year." (Global Grind)
Married music duo Jay-Z and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter are expected to host a President Obama fundraiser today (September 18).
Jay-Z and wife Beyoncé will host a fund-raiser for President Obama at the "Watch the Throne" rapper's 40/40 Club on Sept. 18. We hear the event will be intimate and capped at 100 guests who will shell out $40,000 per ticket to dine with the commander-in-chief and hip-hop royal. Earlier the same day, Obama is scheduled to attend a reception where families can pose for a photo with him for a $12,500 contribution. A rep for Jay-Z's West 25th Street club had no comment. We're told the campaign stop will be Obama's last in New York before the election. But does this mean the president will miss Jay's concerts at Brooklyn's new Barclays Center at the end of September? On rap star Kanye West's "To the World" Cruel Summer track, he takes a swipe at President Obama's opponent Mitt Romney.
G.O.O.D. Music's anticipated Cruel Summer album won't officially be released until September 18, but the LP leaked to the Web on Thursday, and in addition to that off-the-wall feature from R. Kelly on the opening track "To the World," 'Ye throws a quick jab at Mitt Romney. Oh, and he repeats it, just to make sure no one misses it. Including a quick shout-out to Rick Ross and his hit "Hold Me Back," West spits, "I be all up in Goldman Sachs like these n---as tryna hold me back, these n---as tryna hold me back/ I'm just trying to protect my stacks/ Mitt Romney don't pay no tax, Mitt Romney don't pay no tax." Unlike Kreayshawn, fellow West Coast rapper Kendrick Lamar recently revealed his disinterest in voting.
"My vote counts? I don't do no voting. I will keep it straight up real with you. I don't believe in none of the sh*t that's going on in the world," Lamar said in an interview. "You talk with me, you talk with me for hours because everything has a contradiction, everything is higher ranking and way beyond us, way beyond people. So basically, do what you do, do good with your people and live your life because what's going on isn't really in our hands. ... When I say the president can't even control the world, then you definitely know there's something else out there pushing the buttons. They could do whatever they want to do, we all puppets. Just play your cards right." (Truth Is Scary TV)
