Funnyman D.L. Hughley recently had some choice words for Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco in light of the emcee's publicized disinterest in taking part in the presidential election.
Although Hughley said he could not deny the outspoken rapper's talent, the comedian stressed the importance of Lupe needing to encourage fans to vote.
"He's bright as h*ll, but dumb in the weight of the world," Hughley said in an interview. "Young black men are going to listen to him. They are the ones who have decisions made for them, [decisions] that they are not even involved in, which is silly to me. You can't go through life and not be a participant, and hope things work out for your benefit. When you vote or not vote, you are saying yes or no. ... They want to raise the age of social security from 65 to 68 -- black men die at 67. Lupe Fiasco forgets that he's going to be an old man when he's looking for a social security check, and he dies right before he gets it!" (Hot 93.7)
Last year, Lupe raised eyebrows after revealing he does not get involved with elections.
"I don't vote. I don't get involved in the political process because it's meaningless, to be honest," Fiasco added. "I'm a real big believer if I'm gonna vouch for someone, then I'm gonna stand behind everything that they do...So politicians aren't gonna do that because I don't want you to bomb some village in the middle of nowhere." West Coast rapper Kendrick Lamar caught heat last month when he revealed a similar sentiment.
"My vote counts? I don't do no voting. I will keep it straight up real with you. I don't believe in none of the sh*t that's going on in the world," Lamar said in an interview. "You talk with me, you talk with me for hours because everything has a contradiction, everything is higher ranking and way beyond us, way beyond people. So basically, do what you do, do good with your people and live your life because what's going on isn't really in our hands. ... When I say the president can't even control the world, then you definitely know there's something else out there pushing the buttons. They could do whatever they want to do, we all puppets. Just play your cards right." (Truth Is Scary TV)
Atlanta music personality DJ Drama previously told SOHH he believes President Barack Obama is primed to serve another term in office.
"Oh, nah, never that, you know what I'm saying," Drama told SOHH when asked if he would retire the alias "Barack O'Drama" if President Obama does not win. "He has my support and I'm not going to say when he doesn't win because he's gonna win and we're going to keep the legacy going." (SOHH)
