News: Kanye West Edges Out 2 Chainz & Drake, Leads BET Hip-Hop Awards W/ Most Nods

Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West is steering the way for next month's annual BET Hip-Hop Awards showcase with nearly 20 nominations.
Yeezy's 17 nods easily topped fellow contenders 2 Chainz and Young Money's Drake.
West received the most nominations with 17 for the seventh annual BET Hip-Hop Awards, which will air Oct. 9. The rapper has had a big year as a producer, performer and director. He also collaborated with Jay-Z on the hit album, "Watch the Throne." Rapper 2 Chainz scored 13 nominations and Drake earned 11 nods, respectively. The nominations were announced Wednesday. Additional notable nominees include A$AP Rocky, Wale, Big Sean and Jay-Z.
2 Chainz and fellow Atlantan Future, will face off against each other - along with ASAP Rocky, Cash Out and Meek Mill - for the Rookie of the Year award. For Best Hip-Hop Video, 2 Chainz will compete with "No Lie," his collaboration with Drake and go up against ASAP Rocky ("Goldie"); Drake featuring Lil Wayne ("HYFR"); Wale featuring Miguel ("Lotus Flower Bomb"); and Kanye West, Big Sean, Pusha T and 2 Chainz ("Mercy"). MVP of the Year honors will potentially go to 2 Chainz, J. Cole, Jay-Z, Rick Ross and Kanye West. Lyricist of the Year nominees are J. Cole, Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar, Nas and Kanye West. Hollywood funnman Mike Epps will once again host this year's ceremony.
The ceremony will be taped Sept. 29 at Atlanta's Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center. Actor and comedian Mike Epps will return as host for the fourth straight year. Hip-hop mogul Chris Lighty, who committed suicide earlier this month, will be honored during the show. Lighty was the manager for Mariah Carey, Sean "Diddy" Combs and 50 Cent. (CBS News)
