[SOHH highlights a hot record each Tuesday and offers a unique look at the track in Singled Out. After Lil Wyte broke down his "All Kinda Drugs" smash, West Coast rapper Mann deciphers his "3's Company" track.]
"3's Company" was produced by my boy Nic Nac from Starting Six. We all actually kick it and chill at each other's houses. We like to kick it and so one day we went to the studio and I told Nic Nac I wanted to do something like off of Kanye West's Dark Twisted Fantasy project.
When he started making the beat, it was like the way Kanye West makes all of those different sounds and we just started off with this weird sound like "Ah, ah, ah" and we did that. We just started coming up with different concepts.
I remember we just loved it. We wanted something fun and that's really where the concept came from. We had the hook down and then just killed the verses.
It all happened naturally and it was done in the process of me working on a mixtape. I remember knowing I had to get Bobby Brackins on the phone and my boy [Young] Murph on the phone. Then you factor in Nic Nac, we're all a big group so it only made sense.
We knew it would only make sense to have [our team] production and presence on the track. That's how we put this entire project together.
Art thrives on new voices. Music, in particular, tends to take major steps forward when emerging acts arrive on the scene with a fresh perspective. Emerging from Los Angeles is Mann, a rapper wise beyond his years whose fresh, positive, inspiring outlook on life provides his debut album, Mann's World, with a remarkable vibrancy.
