Fallen NFL star Chad Ochocinco has officially been charged a month after getting arrested for domestic violence toward his estranged wife Evelyn Lozada and now faces a year behind bars.

Details of the official charge hit the Internet Wednesday (September 12) afternoon.

Chad Johnson has officially been charged with misdemeanor battery after allegedly headbutting his wife Evelyn Lozada during a nuclear argument last month, this according to the State Attorney for Broward County, Florida. If convicted, Chad faces up to a year in jail. As we reported, Chad was arrested for domestic violence in Florida on August 11th after a fight over a condom receipt allegedly turned violent. Evelyn told police Chad headbutted her. At the time of the fight, Evelyn and Chad had barely been married a month. Evelyn has since filed for divorce, claiming their marriage had become "irretrievably broken." Chad is refusing to sign any divorce papers, insisting he's still in love with her. Chad was also dropped from the Miami Dolphins following his arrest. He's now a free agent. (TMZ)

Last week, Ocho made headlines by tattooing Lozada's face onto his leg.

Dumped Dolphins wide receiver Chad Johnson can't seem to let go of his estranged wife -- and proved it by tattooing her face on his right leg. Johnson, formerly known as Chad Ochocinco, showed off his latest ink featuring Evelyn Lozada and the name "Eve" scrawled below it. Lozada, 36, filed for divorce last month -- three days after she told police that Johnson allegedly became violent when she confronted him about a receipt for condoms. (New York Daily News)

Prior to losing a coconut water drink endorsement, VH1 pulled the plug on airing Evelyn and Chad's reality show.

VH1 scrapped plans to produce a reality show series based on Chad Johnson's marriage to reality star Evelyn Lozada, who appeared on the network's "Basketball Wives" series. "Due to the unfortunate events over the weekend and the seriousness of the allegations, VH1 is pulling the series Ev and Ocho from its schedule and has no current plans of airing it," the network said in a statement. Ochocinco also got cut from the Miami Dolphins in light of the arrest.

Attention, young wide receivers: If you have a flair for the dramatic, a need for media attention and you frequently create headlines for things other than football accomplishments, consider these flaws that you need to correct. These qualities do not pay any longer. Chad Johnson, Terrell Owens and Plaxico Burress highlighted the era of the diva wide receiver in the NFL. They have not enjoyed the respective twilights of their careers. Chad Johnson was released on Sunday night , a very short time after he'd been arrested for allegedly head-butting his new bride . Whether or not he'll find a job again in the NFL is unclear, but at the very least, it's no sure thing. When the Dolphins signed him back in June, it was for $925,000 - the league's veteran minimum - with no guaranteed money. It's not like there was a bidding war for his services, even before the arrest. (Yahoo Sports)
