Underrated: "We'd Skip School Just To Go And Pick Up Their Records"

[Each week, SOHH asks two entertainment personalities to name who they feel is the most underrated emcee in hip-hop. After Mike Will Made It gave Future the title earlier this week, rapper Silex crowns the entire Ruff Ryders SOHH Underrated.]
The most slept on? Wow. For me, I'm a big fan of Ruff Ryders. That's who I'm going to name as SOHH Underrated.
I've been a big fan of Ruff Ryders. Anybody from that camp [can be named SOHH Underrated]. Look at DMX, that's my dog, he's been out for a while so people know about him. Then you can say someone like Styles P and everyone in the LOX. They all can change their styles and go back and forth on the record.
They all could have gotten a lot more exposure than they've got now. They're also good when they're featured on everyone else's record but they could have gotten more [attention], they could have been out there a bit more.
You can name everyone in there from Infrared and Cross and the list goes on. I know them all.
I'm a Ruff Ryder [supporter] for life. I even got a tattoo of the Double-R on me. It's real for me. Really. That's real big. Even the compilation albums and the way they came into the game was big.
When anything came out from them, we used to call the record stores immediately. We'd ask if the record was already there. We'd skip school just to go and pick up their records. We would get the record, get home, put it on tape, bring it to school and bring the rhymes to class.
It was huge and especially back in the days when you really didn't have the Internet. You had to read the magazines and really be up on things because The Source and XXL were really big. They were the new, big things coming out.
There are those artists who earn your attention as you make their acquaintance and then there are those who captivate you the minute you hear a mere verse from them. Whether it is their mic control, their proficient wordplay or just their presence. Rotterdam MC, Silex, embodies everything we expect from an MC the minute he steps into the booth and picks up the mic.
