Monday, Aug 13, 2012 10:01AM
NFL player Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson was reportedly released from jail Sunday (August 12) morning and cut by the Miami Dolphins just hours later.
According to reports, Johnson got released from a Florida jail after getting locked up on domestic violence charges Saturday night.
Chad Johnson walked out of jail at around 10:00 AM this morning after posting $2,500 bond following his arrest last night for allegedly assaulting his wife, Evelyn Lozada. Johnson walked out with his lawyer, Adam Swickle, and was greeted by his brother. Chad faced a barrage of questions from the reporters waiting outside ... but remained silent as he made his way to a waiting SUV. As TMZ first reported, the alleged incident between Johnson and his "Basketball Wives" star wife Lozada was so bad ... Lozada ran to a neighbor's house for safety. (TMZ)
Hours later, the Miami Dolphins cut the media-driven NFL star from its roster.
Attention, young wide receivers: If you have a flair for the dramatic, a need for media attention and you frequently create headlines for things other than football accomplishments, consider these flaws that you need to correct. These qualities do not pay any longer. Chad Johnson , Terrell Owens and Plaxico Burress highlighted the era of the diva wide receiver in the NFL. They have not enjoyed the respective twilights of their careers. Chad Johnson was released on Sunday night , a very short time after he'd been arrested for allegedly head-butting his new bride . Whether or not he'll find a job again in the NFL is unclear, but at the very least, it's no sure thing. When the Dolphins signed him back in June, it was for $925,000 - the league's veteran minimum - with no guaranteed money. It's not like there was a bidding war for his services, even before the arrest. (Yahoo Sports)
Reports of his arrest landed online late Saturday night.
Davie police Capt. Dale Engle says Johnson and his wife were at dinner Saturday and she confronted him about a receipt she had found for a box of condoms. His wife, Evelyn Lozada, is on the reality show, "Basketball Wives," and the couple married last month. Engle says when they arrived at their driveway, Lozada says Johnson head-butted her. She was treated at a hospital for a forehead cut. Engle says Johnson is in the Broward County Jail where he will remain until he can appear before a judge, which Engle says might not be until Monday. He reportedly got busted on a domestic-related charge during his college days.
This is not Johnson's first domestic violence arrest. While in college, Johnson got into an altercation with his then-girlfriend Chevon Jex. After neighbors called police, Johnson was placed on probation for the offense, while also forced to take mandatory anger-management classes. (Miami Herald)
