Music fans hoping recent reports of producer Timbaland and rap star Missy Elliott getting involved in an upcoming posthumous Aaliyah album can stop dreaming as neither will be on it.
According to a Missy Elliott representative, the LP will not involve Aaliyah's longtime friends.
"Although Missy and Timbaland always strive to keep the memory of their close friend alive, we have not been contacted about the project nor are there any plans at this time to participate," Mona Scott-Young, longtime manager for Missy Elliott, says. "We've seen the reports surfacing that they have been confirmed to participate but that is not the case. Both Missy and Timbaland are very sensitive to the loss still being felt by the family so we wanted to clear up any misinformation being circulated." (Billboard)
Last week, R&B singer Trey Songz said a posthumous LP would need Tim and Missy's touch.
"I think the ['Enough Said'] song is dope," Trey said in an interview. "It's good to hear Aaliyah's voice. Just the concept of the song was dope and just to hear her singing completely unheard lyrics was amazing to me. I didn't really judge it from a place like is it good enough, I was just happy to hear it. ... I think it would be dope if Timbaland and Missy did it though -- I think that's the best way to do it, but you don't know the particulars on what's going around. You don't know who owns her music, you don't know any of that. So I don't get to talking about stuff I don't know about." (WiLD 94.9)
Recently, Aaliyah's cousin Jomo Hankerson confirmed Missy and Timbo's involvement on the project.
While the album is in the early stages, Hankerson confirms that Timbaland and Missy Elliott will participate in assembling the LP. "Timbaland will be involved with this project. One of the records that we had that was never released was a Missy record that we obviously are going to be refreshing," says Hankerson, who did not clarify if Timbaland has already produced songs for the project. "This record ['Enough Said'] really kind of came sooner than we thought it was going to come, so it's really the beginning of the creative process for us. We've got a record out while we're still creating the project. A lot of that is still up in the air, but I can tell you that Timbaland will definitely be involved, Missy will definitely be involved." Timbaland declined to comment for this story, while Elliott did not respond to Billboard.biz's request as of press time. (Billboard Biz)
Last week, Young Money's Drake broke his silence on the anticipated LP.
"People should be really excited. People thought it was my single; it's not my single. It's all off of an Aaliyah project that me and 40 are commanding and 40's just doing some incredible, some incredible music right now," Drake revealed in an interview. "To get 13, 14 new Aaliyah songs, everybody should be excited. It's not about me. It's not about 40. It's about her and her fans and us just getting the opportunity to give you something that we feel is great. And the people around her, everybody from her family to her old management and label, were like, 'If there's anyone out that can do it right now, it's [you] and 40.' And that was an honor and we're going to pull in some classic people, anybody who used to work with Aaliyah that was essential in her career we definitely hope to have them involved. So it's great. You get a new Aaliyah album this year on top of everything." (Much Music)
