With most New Yorkers furious over Lil Wayne recently revealing his dislike of the Big Apple, SOHH reached out to Onyx's Sticky Fingaz for a take on Weezy talking down on his home town.
Instead of lashing out at Weezy, Sticky simply said the Young Money leader needs to elaborate on his issues.
"I heard about it yesterday, and you know, I think that maybe he has to elaborate on that," Sticky told SOHH this week. "Maybe he hates New York because he was in jail in Riker's Island. He got caught out there. They locked him up. It's probably the first time he's been locked up, at least for that duration of time. It was probably a horrible experience for him, and the average New Yorker will be like, "Well, eff Lil Wayne and f*ck New Orleans then and da-da-da-da-da." But on the same token, you got to know why he's saying that. I think he should've elaborated on it a little more, and let us know like, "Well, okay. F*ck New York," but why f*ck New York? He can say f*ck New York. He can say whatever he wants to say. That's why America is the top country--freedom of speech." (SOHH)
Fellow New York rapper Busta Rhymes has already stood up for his Cash Money labelmate.
"I can completely understand why he feels that way," Busta said in an interview. "He did a year in Riker's Island for something that probably you really wasn't guilty of, but because you were who you were, you had to eat that." (Hot 97)
Despite their stances, the comment did strike a cord with Donny Goines who released a diss track aimed at Wayne.
"I've been waiting for a reason, patiently, and I mean it, now I've got the opportunity and I'ma cease it," Donny raps, "f*ck Lil Wayne, he this little n*gga weasel, far as I'm concerned, he a Blood when he bleeding -- wipe my a** with Carter IV, rip your f*cking dreads out, you don't want to start a war/Call Drake and Nicki, pluck your whole roster off/This is a matter of respect, warning you to knock it off/You don't like New York, guess what, you ain't welcome..." ("F*ck Lil Wayne")
Earlier this week, Weezy F. Baby revealed his dislike of the Empire State.
Lil Wayne has never been shy about expressing his disdain for New York, but that didn't stop Tunechi from rolling through the Roseland Ballroom to rock the stage with Nicki Minaj. "Flat out: I don't like New York," Weezy told MTV News on Monday night while in Las Vegas to introduce his new line of sneakers with Supra. Wayne's distaste for the Big Apple performances is understandable, considering it was his 2007 gun arrest after a NYC show that led to his 2010 incarceration. "You're not supposed to leave it at, 'Everything happens for a reason,' " Wayne said of how the failed Summer Jam set turned into a blessing in disguise. "I believe everything happens for a reason and then you make the most of that reason. I think we made the most of it last week." (MTV)
