News: LeBron James & Team USA Defeat Spain, Capture Gold Medal
Sunday, Aug 12, 2012 8:51PM
Miami Heat's LeBron James and the entire Team USA men's basketball team are coming back home with gold medals after defeating Spain 107-100 at the London Olympics.
King James helped propel Team USA to a final gold medal win Sunday.
Great for most of the Olympics, just good enough for gold. The U.S. men's basketball team fought off another huge challenge from Spain, pulling away in the final minutes Sunday for a 107-100 win and its second straight Olympic championship. And just like 2008, the star-studded Americans had to work for this one. LeBron James capped one of basketball's most brilliant individual years with a monster dunk and a huge three-pointer in the final 2:50. That wrapped up a close, back-and-forth game that few would have seen coming after the Americans had been so dominant for so long in London. (Newsday)
According to reports, James reached an individual achievement with the win.
LeBron James has a reason to dance. After getting the metaphorical monkey off his back and leading the Miami Heat to an NBA title, James followed up that performance by helping Team USA reach the mountaintop and grab the gold medal in the 2012 Summer Olympics. As a team-oriented player, LeBron may fail to realize the individual accolades, but the 27-year-old became the 2nd player in NBA history to win the league's Most Valuable Player award, the Finals MVP and a gold medal in the same year. The only other player to accomplish such a feat? Michael Jordan. Pretty good company, huh? (Complex)
Recently, producer Mike Will Made It hit up SOHH and predicted Team USA were gold-bound.
"Now, I feel like he's starting to get his game under control, and starting to get into that state of mind where he gets real focused. I love what he's doing out there on the court. But this USA team right now, is really talented. I don't think there's been a USA team like this since the Dream Team. I think we're going to win it this year. They've been smoking out teams by 30s and 40s, and all that different kind of stuff. They've been doing a good job. I feel like they should go 'head and win the medal for this year." Earlier in the week, Atlanta rap star Ludacris showed up to London for the Olympic games.
Well-known American rapper Ludacris was in the crowd for the USA-Argentina match at the Olympic Basketball Arena, but he wasn't the only thing ludicrous about the show. Kevin Durant rained down pain on Team USA's former nemesis with a shooting performance that will have the Boomers wondering if they can sneak an extra player on court for their quarter-final on Wednesday. Team USA blew away their supposed main rivals in this competition 126-97 to firm to unbackable favourites for gold and leave the Boomers working on plans to try and minimise the carnage after Patty Mills gave the Australians a dramatic win with seconds on the clock against Russia to start the day.
