Reality television star Evelyn Lozada has finally come forward after her husband Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson reportedly attacked her last weekend and is speaking out for victims of domestic violence.
Lozada released a statement Tuesday (August 14) to address what went down.
"It is with great sadness and much trepidation that I release this statement addressing the domestic violence incident that happened this past Saturday. I am deeply disappointed that Chad has failed to take responsibility for his actions and made false accusations against me, it is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles. Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well. I'm grateful to my family, friends and fans for the outpouring of support during this difficult time." (USA Today)
Her remarks come a day after VH1 pulled the plug on the now-nixed "Ev and Ocho" reality show.
VH1 scrapped plans to produce a reality show series based on Chad Johnson's marriage to reality star Evelyn Lozada, who appeared on the network's "Basketball Wives" series. "Due to the unfortunate events over the weekend and the seriousness of the allegations, VH1 is pulling the series Ev and Ocho from its schedule and has no current plans of airing it," the network said in a statement. The NFL player left a Florida jail Sunday after getting arrested the night before.
Chad Johnson walked out of jail at around 10:00 AM this morning after posting $2,500 bond following his arrest last night for allegedly assaulting his wife, Evelyn Lozada. Johnson walked out with his lawyer, Adam Swickle, and was greeted by his brother. Chad faced a barrage of questions from the reporters waiting outside ... but remained silent as he made his way to a waiting SUV. As TMZ first reported, the alleged incident between Johnson and his "Basketball Wives" star wife Lozada was so bad ... Lozada ran to a neighbor's house for safety. (TMZ)
Hours later, the Miami Dolphins cut the media-driven NFL player from its roster.
Attention, young wide receivers: If you have a flair for the dramatic, a need for media attention and you frequently create headlines for things other than football accomplishments, consider these flaws that you need to correct. These qualities do not pay any longer. Chad Johnson, Terrell Owens and Plaxico Burress highlighted the era of the diva wide receiver in the NFL. They have not enjoyed the respective twilights of their careers. Chad Johnson was released on Sunday night , a very short time after he'd been arrested for allegedly head-butting his new bride . Whether or not he'll find a job again in the NFL is unclear, but at the very least, it's no sure thing. When the Dolphins signed him back in June, it was for $925,000 - the league's veteran minimum - with no guaranteed money. It's not like there was a bidding war for his services, even before the arrest. (Yahoo Sports)
