News: DJ Khaled's "Kiss The Ring" First-Week Sales Projections Increase
Saturday, Aug 25, 2012 7:12AM
Miami radio personality DJ Khaled's new Kiss the Ring compilation album is reportedly en route to possibly sell up to another 5,000 copies more than originally expected in its opening week.
Although it will miss topping the chart, Khaled's newest LP could now sell up to 45,000 copies.
Trey Songz easily gets the #1 spot on next week's chart as it's the only title that will break six figures. Nothing else even comes close. For now, it looks like Universal will score six slots in the Top 10. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend: *Trey Songz (Atlantic) 125-135k Now 43 (Capitol/EMI) 45-50k 2 Chainz (Def Jam/IDJ) 45-50k *DJ Khaled (Republic) 40-45k Maroon 5 (A&M/Octone) 35-40k Justin Bieber (Island/IDJ) 30-35k Rick Ross (Def Jam/IDJ) 27-30k (HITS Weakend Chart Preview)
Initial reports had the album selling no more than 40,000 after seven days in stores.
Trey Songz' fifth Atlantic album, Chapter V, will easily take the #1 spot on next week's chart as the only title that will hit six figures, with a first-week total that should reach 125-130k. His last album, 2010's Passion, Pain & Pleasure, debuted with 240k in sales on the way to a total of 842k to date. Cash Money/Republic rapper DJ Khaled's Kiss the Ring, the follow-up to last year's We the Best Forever, is on target for 35-40k as the second-highest debut of the week. (HITS Daily Double)
The deejay's newest compilation album features appearances from Meek Mill, Ace Hood and Rick Ross.
The album starts off with "Shout out to The Streets" with the new heavywweight in the game, Meek Mill, Khaled's own Ace Hood, and from nowhere, there is a return of Plies. The beat isn't bad and Mill drops a quick but energetic verse. Plies is what you would expect as is Ace Hood. "B*tches and Bottles" features Lil Wayne and TI, and unfortunately Future. TI has the best verse, Wayne does the normal and Future....let's just move on. Rick Ross and Kanye West hold down "I Wish You Would" where someone must have left the auto tune feature on when Kanye hit the booth. His verse is weird since he starts off with some street type of stuff that doesn't really fit his persona. Then there is the lead single, "Take it to the Head" with Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Ross and Lil Wayne. (Hip Hop Junkiez)
Last summer, Khaled's We The Best Forever debuted in the top five.
Def Jam South President DJ Khaled's We The Best Forever debuted on the chart this week at No. 5. With seven days under his belt, Khaled's new LP has sold 53,100 records to date. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
