Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West and Pusha T have teamed up for a new record called "New God Flow" which may reportedly be the re-launch of G.O.O.D. Fridays.
The rap duo's new record officially debuted Monday (July 2) evening.
It's a G.O.O.D. Monday: Kanye West has released the latest track from the label group, "New God Flow." The track, which West premiered a cappella at the BET Awards on Sunday night, is a hard-hitting effort with an assist from G.O.O.D.'s Pusha T. "I believe there's a god above me/I'm just the god of everything else," Pusha raps. The boastful track concludes with West taking aim at his competition: "I'm way fresher than all my foes/somebody please pick out they clothes," he raps in a military-style call-and-response. G.O.O.D.'s "Cruel Summer" is due Aug. 7. A track list has yet to be announced, though "New God Flow" and other recent singles such as "Way Too Cold" are expected to be included. (Billboard)
The record reportedly features a Ghostface Killah sample and endless celebrity name-drops courtesy of Yeezy.
Kanye West stole the next morning's headlines at Sunday's BET Awards, going a cappella in a moment of breathtaking ambition that recalled Lil Wayne seizing the same venue to declare himself hip-hop ("and I ain't dead, I'm alive") five years earlier. Now the full track, which samples its hook from Ghostface Killah's Supreme Clientele cut "Mighty Healthy," has emerged, and it's similarly bristling: G.O.O.D. soldier Pusha T delivering a ferocious lesson on hip-hop history, from Puff tough-guy Shyne to Tupac at Coachella (by way of an inevitable-for-Pusha-eventually yay-'Ye pun); West getting tied up a bit in his latest proclamation of greatness with name-drops (LeBron James, Notorious B.I.G., Martin Luther King, Rodney King, Whitney Houston, Richard Pryor ... and EPMD half Erick Sermon!), but still finding room to touch on territory unusual for such likely Top 40 fare (crime problems in Chicago, "an uncle that touched you"). A few days ago, reports suggested "New God Flow" could spark the return of Ye's popular G.O.O.D. Fridays.
Okay folks, there's no need to stalk Pusha T's timeline for the next 24 hours. G.O.O.D. Music's "New God Flow" artwork dropped today but insiders told Miss Info that the song may mark the return of Kanye's much-loved and much-imitated music marketing strategy, the GOOD Friday song leaks. We have a strong feeling the track won't drop until Friday. It's perfect timing for G.O.O.D.'s mysterious BET Awards performance. Will Kanye join in? Is Kim K. also making an appearance? (Miss Info TV)
West's G.O.O.D. Fridays kicked off in mid-August 2010 to help promote his platinum-selling My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album.
GOOD Fridays is a weekly free music giveaway started by rapper Kanye West. The name originates from the name of his label, GOOD Music, and is also a reference to the Friday before Easter, which is known as Good Friday. Every Friday, beginning on August 20, 2010, Kanye planned on releasing a new song available for free download on his website. (Wikipedia)
