News: Kanye West Butts Heads W/ Kardashian Family's Friend, Ticketmaster CEO?
Monday, Jul 9, 2012 11:20AM
Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West is reportedly butting heads with music manager Irving Azoff, who happens to have a close relationship to Kim Kardashian and her family, and could be on the hunt for new management.
According to reports, Yeezy and the 65 year-old manager are not seeing eye-to-eye.
According to one insider, the executive chairman of Live Nation and CEO of Ticketmaster, who took on West as a client shortly after he began dating Kardashian, "doesn't have the kindest words for West." The source says the 65-year-old has called Kardashian's boyfriend of nearly five months "unmanageable" due to his eccentricities. "[Azoff] doesn't know if he'll be able to continue on with the relationship [with West]," the source explains. West seems to share similar sentiments about the mogul, as a second source says the musician verbalized his feelings about the businessman at the Black Entertainment Television awards July 1, which were held in the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The mercurial rapper was overheard describing Azoff, who oversees a plethora of artists like Christina Aguilera , Journey, Jewel , the Eagles and Van Halen, as "nothing special" and stating that he may fire Azoff. He was previously managed by Gee Robertson. (New York Daily News)
Mr. West and Azoff reportedly hooked up due to their connection to the Kardashian family.
The problem could be bigger than just business, however. The initial source tells us Kanye was influenced by the Kardashian clan -- especially Kim's mom-ager Kris Jenner -- to work with Azoff in the first place. The executive's impressive track record in the industry didn't hurt his case. Azoff, who topped Billboard's 2012 Power 100 and was named the most powerful person in the music industry, has a long history with the reality family, starting with Jenner's first husband, the late Robert Kardashian. The music executive and lawyer had a working relationship with Azoff before passing away in 2003, and Azoff's wife, Shelli , remains close to Jenner. Additionally, the music mogul hosted the wedding of Kim's younger sister, Khloe Kardashian , to basketball player Lamar Odom in his Beverly Hills mansion in September 2009. When Azoff took to Twitter in August 2010, it was Kim who encouraged her fans to follow him. (New York Daily News)
Earlier this year, Azoff landed atop Billboard's Power 100 industry rankings.
To hear the words "I have Irving Azoff on the line" and not experience at least a twinge of anxiety means a pulse check is in order. Azoff helms the world's largest promoter, ticketing company and artist management group from behind one desk. (OK, he probably has several desks, but you get the idea.) He has moved mountains in the worlds of film, TV and music; transformed mere artistry into superstardom; sustained and resurrected careers; and is a force of nature in the world of philanthropy. Music industry careers come and go, but Azoff's sphere of influence is enormous and ever-expanding. (Billboard Biz)
This evening, Yeezy will appear on the popular reality series "Keeping Up with the Kardashians."
There's no doubt Kim Kardashian is among one of Hollywood's most stylish stars, but when she prepares to go out on a date with new boyfriend Kanye West the reality star knows she has to up her fashion game. In a new clip from Monday's Keeping Up With the Kardashians, the 31-year-old turns to rapper West, 35, for wardrobe inspiration when preparing to attend Scott Disick's RYU restaurant opening in April in New York City. "I am so happy Kanye is coming with me to Scott's restaurant opening," Kardashian says as West (who has his own fashion line), offers his opinion on her date-night dress, jewelry and purse. "I don't want to make a big fuss about it -- we're just hanging out." (Us Magazine)
