Days after rap veteran Nas publicly unveiled his Life Is Good cover, God's Son has stepped up to discuss putting ex-wife/singer Kelis' wedding dress on the album art.
Asked to describe what the cover represents, Nasty Nas detailed a flurry of emotions.
"Life, love, joy, anger, celebration. There's so many things you can see on that album cover. You see my life. My life is on that album cover," he explained in an interview. "It just happened. It happened on its own. It was not a lot of effort at all. ... [Have I heard from Kelis yet?] We just put it out, so it's still way too fresh. ... [Will I hear from her about it?] Eventually at some point." (Rap-Up)
Earlier this week, a Life Is Good promotional video revealed the long-awaited album's cover.
The one-and-half minute clip clears up the use of Kelis' infamous green dress, ending with a clip from Nas' episode of VH1's "Behind the Music" where he reiterates a moment from his public and bitter divorce from her. "She took her stuff out of the house and left her green wedding dress, and that was all she left," Nas said on the episode. (Billboard)
Back in March, Nas talked about dishing out money in child support to baby mothers.
"Life is crazy," the famously private MC said. "I [wound] up paying more money to baby mommas than what some of my rap brothers and sistren make." At the time, several outlets reported that Kelis was seeking about $45,000 a month in child and spousal support from the father of two, daughter Destiny from a previous relationship and son Knight with the "Bossy" singer. The figure was formally reduced last year by a court to a $25,000 month, but the scrutiny left Nas scarred. "I've always been away from too much limelight and that right there put me in your -- no one's exempt from people probing into your life once you get into the game," he conceded. "So [the divorce] put a lot of my business out there, man. People weren't thinking I was making that kind of money, and now they knew." (MTV)
Last year, Kelis spoke on her divorce from the hip-hop mogul.
"I'm not a big regret person. I've been divorced, and I can still say I don't regret it," she said in an interview. "I'm a big believer that if a bad situation happens, it is a lesson that needs to be learned, just once. My mom told us that when we hit our thirties we'd feel our most beautiful and sexy and smart, and I really do feel like that." (Showbiz Spy)
Life Is Good hits retail stores Tuesday, July 17th.
