Grammy-winning singer Erykah Badu's sister Nayrok appears to be following in her footsteps as seen in a new steamy Flaming Lips music video where she combines nudity with art.
The music video landed online Friday (June 1) and show Nayrok covered in glitter, blood and another speculated sticky substance.
Here's the video for the Flaming Lips and Erykah Badu's cover of the standard "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face", which appears on the collab-heavy release The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends. The clip was directed by George Salisbury, and as Wayne Coyne hint-Tweeted (and Erykah Badu Tweet-clarified) earlier this week, it features a very, very naked Nayrok Badu, Erykah's sister, covered in glitter, blood, and what looks like (and hopefully is not) semen. After being released on vinyl for Record Store Day, The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends will see release digitally and on CD on June 26 via Warner Bros. (Pitchfork)
Hype started to develop earlier this week when nude on-set photos hit the Internet.
This week, Flaming Lips lead singer Wayne Coyne tweeted pictures of Erykah Badu's younger sister draped in the placenta of the most righteous earth-mother-three-twirls-in-a-circle on the music video set to their version of "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face." Prepare to do a double take as Lil' Sister Badu (who bears a striking resemblance to the "Window Seat" singer) loses her top and inhibitions in a series of NSFW pictures. (Crunktastical)
Since the sister share a close resemblance, Erykah hopped on Twitter to kill reports suggesting they were of her.
Erykah Badu indicates to news that she is not the subject of leaked pictures 2012 online this week. "Those ... photos posted by Wayne (flaming lips) are of the beautiful Nayrok my lil sister and bestee." She added "We do look alike. Video looks cosmic." Wayne Coyne replied "And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave..to the dark and empty skies." Erykah added "it looks beautiful. Nayrok ( lil sis) looks amazing . U are a Tru visionary .. My fav is the glitter." (LA Late)
Back in 2010, the soulful music veteran raised eyebrows after appearing nude in her "Window Seat" music video.
"I thought it was a move for women and men and children who feel they weren't good enough. This is just me, I'm good enough.' I felt it was important enough to do. More pros than cons. I know it was a shocking thing I did. I expected it to provoke dialogue, and it's an important statement to make. It's about freeing oneself of the layers and layers of things that we have learned as Americans in this country. At the point of becoming naked and individual and free, either you're assassinated spiritually or mentally by the group or worse. The words coming out of my head after I was figuratively and literally assassinated was 'groupthink.' Groupthink is a term coined by Irving Janis, 1972. It pretty much states what happens when a character or person is ostracized for thinking out of what the consensus is. He or she is pretty much thinking [more] with a heart than with loyalty. It's an important thing. It's art. It's performance art. Art is supposed to spark dialogue and ring an awakening of some sort." (MTV)
