[As accessorized bracelets, necklaces and costume jewelry make there way to the top of today's #TT list, designer Lorie Cohn has found her niche creating handmade, silk-dyed bracelets. Made to wrap around your forearm or ankle, this Connecticut designer is separating herself from the pack as she creates custom jewelry with a message. Want to know more? Check out Lorie's 5 Reasons to buy Charmed Design.]

1. Not Just A Bracelet

Each piece is designed to [hold] a particular meaning, and each stone and charm is used to put forth that particular meaning... They can be worn multiple ways. They can be [worn as] wrap bracelets; they can be anklets and they can be necklaces.

2. Rare Materials

They're made of very unique materials. I use hand-dyed silk ribbon; I also use Japanese Chirimen Cord, which is a beautiful floral cord. They're very unusual, and you can't find a lot of those type of bracelets around.

3. Independently Owned, Not Corporate-Produced

You can't go to Target or Macy's and buy something that has a story behind it and a real person behind it. You're dealing with large corporations and large brands. I think that sets [my jewelry] apart [from other accessory brands]. They're handmade and they have a story behind [them].

4. Meaningful Designs

Another reason, I think my story appeals to a lot of people. I started [making] designer jewelry while I was recovering from a life-threatening illness to inspire and motivate other women. And I find that a lot of my customers have stories just like mine. It's pretty cool. People write me with these really intense, personal stories, and it always amazes me how much they're willing to share.

5. A Creative Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Waste

I started this to stay positive and to do something constructive at a time when I could not work at a full-time job. I discovered this desire and real passion for the creation process so I decided to start selling them. I started to do well, and found out then that I also had a love for the business side of it, so it really helped me through my recovery to stay positive. That is why each of my designs has a positive or inspirational message.
