Mobb Deep's Prodigy is looking way past recent break-up rumors involving longtime friend/group member Havoc, announcing plans to put out a new joint LP in the near future.
While a release date has yet to get penciled in, Capital P insists Mobb Deep fans can expect new music for the time being.
"The Mobb is good, we're working on the next album still, steadily, making it hot," he said in an interview. "But in the meantime we're gonna put out some product for right now. The Mobb Deep album is not where we want it to be yet, so we've just gotta do something in the meantime. ... We've got a distribution deal over at Sony RED, so basically we run our own label, we run the company, we've gotta do everything ourselves. We make the release schedule, it's up to us what comes out first and if we want to change something, we change it. We've got a lot of control with this situation." (RapFix)
Last month, Prodigy laughed off the break-up and beef rumors.
"Every time I drop a solo album, it seems like this rumor always surface," P told radio host Angie Martinez Wednesday (April 18). "The last time I put out the first H.N.I.C. record, we had a similar incident with a few people that was around us that felt we should have been doing more stuff for them and wasn't so they started going around saying they broke up, Mobb Deep is over. It wasn't true. He was basically a disgruntled employee -- I think it had something to do with a few people that was around us. You should be able to tell from time that Mobb Deep, we're never going to break up. That's not going to happen. ... You know the Knicks, they call themselves Mob Deep now, they gave us season passes. We good at every game." ("The Angie Martinez Show")
Earlier the same day, P admitted to milking the initial Mobb Deep break-up rumor.
"I can't even tell you how it happened," P said in an interview. "When we got down to the bottom of it, we knew what was going on, we knew it was all bogus, so we kept kinda quiet. We ain't say nothing about it. We ain't get up on Twitter right away and say it's bogus. So that's probably why people think he set it up or something. We just waited for a minute -- that wasn't Hav [tweeting]. ... Me and Hav have a lot of fights and arguments, and when we fight we laugh about it and tell people on the radio and all of that -- it's nothing to be ashamed of or try to hide, especially with me and Hav." Recent reports claimed Mobb Deep would never reunite for an album.
The Infamous Mobb hit SXSW in Austin for the first time last month, and though they performed multiple times, the tension was continuing to mount. "When he got back to New York, Prodigy kept his word," the source said. "He stopped takin' Havoc's calls. He wanted to be out that whole situation." The source also denied accusations that Havoc questioned Prodigy's sexuality, and said it's highly unlikely that the two will work together again. "To be honest with you, there's 120 percent certainty that there will never be another Mobb Deep album again," the source concluded. "How do you come back from that?" (XXL Mag)
