Brooklyn rap veteran Lil Kim is reminding fans life is deeper than music by revealing her father's battle with Azheimer's and how much she has looked after him in recent years.
According to Kim, she has even moved her father in to take care of him.
"People around me know I do good. Mom lived with me until I went away. She's now in Delaware. My father had ex-wife troubles. Also health issues. He shakes. Spills coffee and food. We have to cook for him, pour his juice. His sickness wasn't diagnosed, but it's a small case of Alzheimer's. I know about 'Honor Thy Father and Mother.' My father and I were estranged, but I've taken him in. He lives with me. I'm very blessed. I live in New Jersey. Every day I give blessings. I know God's helping me." (New York Post)
Last fall, Duck Down Records CEO Dru Ha talked about participating in Alzheimer's awareness events.
"I'm running it for the Alzheimer's Disease Foundation, a team called Run to Remember, based out of New York City," Dru said referring to the annual New York City marathon. "My father this past January passed away from Alzheimer's and I just felt like I needed to do something really challenging that's personal to me and that would pay tribute to the man that he was," Dru Ha says. Kim recently opened up on putting together her first solo LP since 2005's The Naked Truth.
"When I came home from prison in 2006, I was really unhappy with my label so I wanted to get off, and I didn't get released. I wasn't dropped. I had to pay them. So, at the end of the day, it's like that takes time. For two years, I fought and fought and fought and finally there was a break. During those two years, I did my Hollywood thing, I mean doing reality shows, 'Dancing With The Stars' and all that good stuff. But in-between me doing 'Dancing With The Stars', I struck up another deal. I did a deal with Trackmasters, and it didn't work out, but that took another year or two." (Sucker Free)
Earlier this year, Kim was spotted showing support for boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr. following a court hearing.
A judge agreed Friday to postpone a jail sentence against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a Las Vegas domestic violence case, allowing the undefeated boxer to make a Cinco de Mayo fight against an as-yet unnamed opponent. The ruling by Justice of the Peace Melissa Saragosa to allow Mayweather to begin his 90-day stint on June 1 came with the fighter's manger and supporters, including rap star Lil' Kim and R&B artist Ray J, in the courtroom as a defence lawyer cited the economic boost that Las Vegas could get from the bout.
