[Each week, SOHH asks two entertainment personalities to name who they feel is the most underrated emcee in hip-hop. After Toya Carter-Wright gave Rasheeda the title earlier this week, Cold Heat's Johnny Walker crowns Blaq Poet SOHH Underrated.]
Blaq Poet is really like the person who put Queens on his back during the whole Boogie Down Productions beef. He's the man that really stepped up to the plate and was really Queensbridge's guy.
A lot of people don't realize it but he was the dude ready to go to war when these guys were saying that Queens is faking it. He's a guy that paid dues, made groundbreaking material and he's true to what he says. He's talking about selling crack or punching somebody in the face and he's out there doing it.
A lot of the people say things that they're doing but aren't doing them but he's somebody that definitely is. His delivery and his voice would just cut through you. You knew he was dead serious. He wasn't saying things to come across as some fruity commercial rapper.
He delivers hard bars and you have to love and respect a guy like that. He's been in the game for a minute and he's still rhyming.
In 2004 Jak Danielz teamed up with NYC graffiti legend and producer Johnny Walker (aka BL One - old school new york bombing graff legend from TMR crew, NYC) to form Cold Heat Entertainment. Since it's inception the Queens powerhouse has created a worldwide buzz through a blitz of mixtape, album and television appearances. Jak Danielz has made numerous radio appearences on college radio and Sirius Satalite Radio and XM Radio, including Shade 45 Eminem's Station and Power 105.1 New York.
