Young Money rapper Nicki Minaj's long-awaited Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded sophomore album is reportedly en route to sell up to 225,000 copies in its opening week.
Based on one-day estimates, the platinum-selling rapper's LP should easily debut atop her competition.
The N.Y. Times just called her the pre-eminent female rapper of all time. And while that doesn't say much--though supporters of Lil' Kim, MC Lyte, Foxy Brown and Missy Elliott might disagree--Nicki Minaj's sophomore Young Money/Cash Money/ Universal Republic album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, will debut at #1 next week, with between 200-225k in sales. That's based on one-day reports from our crack network of online retailers and those selling CDs from the back of their car trunks. (Hits Daily Double)
A few days ago, Minaj downplayed any sort of sophomore jinx concerns.
"H*ll no! This album is gonna sell so much more than Pink Friday," Minaj told radio host DJ Clue. "Ask me this question two years from today, Clue. With me, I'm never about first week and all that. I like to look at it for the long haul. I'ma travel, I'ma meet my beautiful babies, my Barbz everywhere, and this is my first time I'm gonna get to do a world tour, so the album is gonna do its thing." (Power 105.1)
The rapper's Young Money labelmate Tyga recently offered his take on the new LP.
Tyga took a break from his "I'm Gone" video shoot in Lynwood, California, on Monday to talk Pink Friday with MTV News. "I love it," Nicki's fellow Young Money soldier said. "I get the concept behind the album. This is her album, and she's really talkin' that sh-- and tellin' people they need to glorify her and what she's done." (MTV)
Having sold over 1.7 million copies to date, Minaj's Pink Friday debuted at number two back in 2010.
Young Money rapper Nicki Minaj's long-awaited Pink Friday finally hit retail shelves and debuted at No. 2. With a week under her pink belt, the emcee's debut album has pushed out 376,000 copies. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
