Young Money rapper Nicki Minaj's father has reportedly stepped forward to defend his image after she blasted him in a recent interview claiming there was massive childhood abuse surrounding her growing up.

Despite the rap star's comments, he insists Nicki over exaggerated about her childhood abuse.

Nicki Minaj's father is completely torn up over the rapper's recent comments -- that she wanted to "kill" him when she was a child -- and now, he wants the world to know he's not some violent monster. Family sources tell TMZ, Nicki's anecdotes are grossly exaggerated -- Omar admits he had anger issues when she was a child ... but insists it NEVER reached the point Nicki described in her interview. Sources tell us, Omar never knew Nicki felt this way about him -- and he's absolutely crushed she decided to air her grievances in the media. We're told her father still loves Nicki very much ... and always has. (TMZ)

In a recent televised interview, Nicki detailed how abusive her father was.

In a "Nightline" interview last week, the 29-year-old performer spoke out about her father's alleged drug and alcohol abuse, saying that she "wanted to kill him" and "wished he was dead." "My father was abusive," she told "Nightline" correspondent Juju Chang. "We were afraid for (my mother's) life because whenever he would have a real bad outburst, he would threaten to kill her." The "Stupid Hoe" rapper also claimed that Omar once nearly burned down the family home. (New York Daily News)

There are other past instances where she described her father as a drug addict.

"I thought we would just be happy, but with a drug-addicted parent, there is no such thing as being happy," she said in an interview. "When you have a father who is stealing your furniture and selling it so that he can buy crack, you suffer. "You come home from school and your couch is gone. You're like, 'What happened?'" (VIBE)

Outside of family issues, the platinum-selling rapper's latest solo album debuted atop its competition last week.

Leading the pack this week is Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded at No. 1. According to Nielsen SoundScan, the Barbie's sophomore album shelled out 254,000 units in its opening week. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
