[Each week, SOHH asks two entertainment personalities to name who they feel is the most underrated emcee in hip-hop. After Likwuid gave OutKast the title last week, Reebok Classics product manager Damion Presson crowns Beanie Sigel SOHH Underrated.]
I'm from Philadelphia so I'm going to say, to me, the most underrated rapper would be Beanie Sigel.
I'm going to say Beans because I think his lyrical content is just dope. I put him up there [on my Top 5 Dead or Alive list.] Maybe not quite with Jadakiss but I say people haven't really had a chance to hear him. Maybe it's because I've been around Beans and I know him, so I've heard a little bit more.
I don't think he's delivered the album he should have delivered [yet] but I just think he's underrated because people haven't heard the best of Beans. I feel like they haven't heard the best of him. I think there's a lot more to Beans than what people have heard.
People have heard the whole Roc-A-Fella piece of Beans but there's a little side of Beans that a lot of people haven't heard. I'm going to say his B. Coming [comes to my mind.] "Feel It In The Air" was off the B. Coming. That was a single but there's a couple other singles on there.
Being from Philly, you have to love Beans. I thought he had a unique flow and obviously I prefer the hip-hop of hearing those stories and those drug tales. That's what I like to hear. I'm a little older but that's what I'm into.
I think he had an aggressive flow and style. There was no finesse or anything pretty about it. It was what it was. He told stories and tales about growing up in Philly and how the struggle was like. Being from Philly, I could appreciate that and knowing some of the places he was talking about, that's just my opinion.
