[SOHH highlights a hot record each week and offers a unique look at the track in Singled Out. After Obie Trice broke down his Eminem-assisted "Richard" track, producer E-Train reveals how he managed to get Keith Murray on the new "Talk Sh*t" anthem.]
The "Talk Sh*t" collaboration pretty much came about through one of my really good friends who is also featured on the track. I've worked with him a lot on the East Coast and he's somebody that was booking a lot of shows for Keith Murray at the time.
We talked one day and he briefly mentioned that I should maybe try doing a track for him. For me, that was a huge opportunity for me and I jumped right on it. The very next day, he put me on a three-way call with Keith and we talked about it real quick.
We started going through beats and made sure to take our time to find the right beat for him. Eventually Keith Murray picked one that he liked and it turned out to be a pretty raw track. That's what I really wanted to do because being a big Keith Murray fan and growing up on the whole Most Beautifullest Thing [album], it's got that really raw feel.
The name of the track is "Talk Sh*t" and that's just that. The chorus is really just mentioning how rappers talk sh*t and that's pretty much what it is. I feel like the whole thing came out nice.
E-Train is a San Francisco native who recently put out his On Solid Ground LP, making it a return to the digital world since The Loyalists, E-Train's long time Hip-Hop crew, went on hiatus in 2009. Explaining the concept behind On Solid Ground, E-Train explains "I started working with artists from around the Bay Area but it quickly spread across the country. Before I knew it, I was working with some of my favorite MCs on the planet and the end result was an album which combines that boom-bap Hip-Hop with soul and R&B, an album I am very proud of."
