After Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West left fans scratching their heads during a "106 & Park" appearance earlier this week, Atlanta's 2 Chainz has explained why Yeezy gave viewers the silent treatment.
According to Chainz, he told Ye there was no need to feed into the media pressure prior to the appearance.
"That's my dog and he doesn't do press -- he didn't wanna do it period -- and they kind of forced his hand," 2 Chainz told MTV News of West's "106 and Park" appearance, from the set of MTV's "Hip Hop Squares. "I was like, 'You don't have to say nothing, bro,' because at the end of the day I knew he was up there supporting me, period." "I do a lot of things behind the scenes that people don't know [about], and they only see [what happens] on '106 and Park,' " 2 Chainz continued. "So that would've been another event where they wouldn't have known Kanye was back there, I wouldn't have name-dropped, that would've been part of my process of just working hard and grinding it out." As seen on Monday's broadcast, Ye gave viewers silence and head nodding.
Kanye West has shied away from the media as of late, but he made a surprise appearance alongside his Def Jam labelmate 2 Chainz on Monday's "106 & Park." Looking fresh to death in a cheetah-print jacket and the new Air Yeezy 2s, Mr. West did not say a single word, letting 2 Chainz do all the talking. (Rap-Up)
2 Chainz used the opportunity to boast about how much he respects Ye's talent.
"I feel like Kanye is the best producer in the world," the rapper said. "The way that he sees things is just different from anyone else, so it's just an honor to be in the studio with him at the same time and just kinda clashing worlds. My resume is filled with street credibility music, trap rap, and he kind of brings color and images to what I'm doing, so he'll definitely be a part of my project." ("106 & Park")
No stranger to silence, West has previously done mum interviews.
This isn't the first time Kanye exercised his right to remain silent. In 2011, Kanye did a silent interview with New York Mag where he only answered questions by shaking his head yes or no. After falling out with "The Today Show's" Matt Lauer, Kanye has refused to do any interviews, citing the media takes what he says out of context. (Global Grind)
