R&B singer The-Dream recently discussed reality star Kim Kardashian making an unexpected move in the music industry last year and admitted it was merely all for fun.
According to Dream, Kardashian never fully intended on making a run as a singer.
It seems like the Kardashians have their stamp on everything these days -- from diet pills to primetime guest spots on sitcoms, to their own clothing line -- so it wasn't a stretch to assume that mom, Kris Jenner, would push her children into another project that could potentially amass millions for the Kardashian trademark. But, The-Dream tells us otherwise. "I'm the one that actually called her to do it," the producer revealed during his interview with Sway Calloway. "This was very, very -- believe it or not -- a very fun moment for me. It's one of my lightest musical moments. ... It wasn't about kicking off a singing career; it was us really having the power of TV and goofing off." (MTV)
Recently, 112's Slim spoke to SOHH and offered his take on seeing entertainment beauties like Amber Rose and Kim Kardashian trying their hand in his lane.
"When you have people like an Amber Rose and Kim Kardashian or whatever, I look at it like this; in this day and age, you have to grow with what's going on," Slim told SOHH. "You have people out there that are trying to touch every aspect of entertainment there is. For that right there, I can't knock them. At the end of the day, they're touching their dream. I look at it like, the sky is the limit. Go for it. You have people that probably told Drake, 'No, you can't sing 'and' rap.' I followed him through his mixtapes -- I find it very amazing that somebody from Toronto can come down and really embrace the Texas-feel of music and do a really good job at it. He mixed the style of where he's from and what he's going through, and really took it to a whole 'nother field. I can't knock it. As long as you believe in what you're doing, then the sky is the limit." (SOHH)
R&B singer Keri Hilson also previously gave SOHH her take on Kim's music experimentation.
"I haven't [followed the story] at all, actually, I thought it was rumor," Keri told SOHH about Kardashian's attempt at the music industry. "How do we know it's true? But hey, I think we're all entitled to follow our dreams. And if that's part of her dream, then go for it. You know? I wouldn't resent anybody for trying something new and you never know what could happen. [Kim] could discover that she has a new passion." (SOHH)
Although short-lived, Kardashian gave the music industry a shot last year.
"Basically, Ciara came to me and was like, 'You've got to meet The-Dream,'" Kim explained in an interview. "I was not into doing a song. I thought, 'Everyone kind of tries that, and it doesn't really work out so well.' So I talked to friends like Kanye and a few of my other musical friends, like this is their life. They gave me good advice. They asked me what I do for fun, and I said, 'I go shopping, I hang out with friends.' And they said, 'We go to the studio for fun. Come have fun with us. Don't think too much about it.'" Kim continued, clarifying that an album is not in the works: "There's no album in the works or anything -- just one song we did for the show, and a video Hype Williams directed," Kim said. "Half of the proceeds we're giving away to a cancer foundation, because The-Dream's and one of my parents passed away from cancer. It's just all having fun -- with a good cause." (Billboard)
