Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne has reportedly teamed up with popular soda company Mountain Dew to kick-off a new #DeWeezy campaign which will make its way to the annual South By Southwest Austin, Texas music festival next week.
Details of his Mountain Dew partnership suggest fans can expect everything from advertisements to an entire New Orleans skate park getting built for Weezy.
Lil Wayne will invade SXSW as he has paired up with Mountain Dew to launch the #DeWeezy campaign, a full out assault that will include advertisements, a skate park being built in New Orleans and multiple appearances for the cause. Details of the partnership are supposed to be unveiled next week, but a statement from Mountain Dew explains a bit of how it came together. (Complex)
Wayne's manager Cortez Bryant has also confirmed the hype is legit.
"We are excited to partner Lil Wayne's brand with a brand like Mountain Dew, a household name. Representatives from the Glu Agency approached us with the idea over a year ago, which was surprising to us because corporate America is often very conservative and Lil Wayne is a unique artist," says Cortez Bryant, co-CEO of Blueprint Group. "However by showing interest in Lil Wayne, both Mountain Dew and the Glu Agency showed us they were forward thinking and valued the impact that Lil Wayne's brand has had and will continue to have on global pop culture." No stranger to the hip-hop world, Mountain Dew is known for teaming with rap acts in recent years such as The Cool Kids and Mac Miller.
Staying true to a tradition of supporting up-and-coming artists and life being different on the mountain, Mountain Dew announces a new partnership with the one and only Mac Miller. With his hotly anticipated debut Blue Slide Park out today, Mountain Dew is pleased to present Mac's first headlining US tour, which will feature 35 shows in 32 cities this Fall. The sponsorship will include branded promotional items at every show, a remix release on the Mountain Dew record label Green Label Sound and a live internet broadcast of Mac's album release show tonight at the West Hollywood House of Blues.
