[Each week, SOHH asks two entertainment personalities to name who they feel is the most underrated emcee in hip-hop. After Sham "Sak Pase" Joseph gave Busta Rhymes the title earlier this week, rapper Nefew crowns Saigon SOHH Underrated.]
The most underrated has to be Saigon. I'm going to name Saigon SOHH Underrated.
I just feel he didn't get the support he really deserves. Lyrically, he's a monster. I love his new music. Whenever he drops music and even his most recent mixtape that he just dropped, I just feel like that's great quality stuff.
I just don't know why he doesn't receive the proper support that he's supposed to get. I think there's a lot of politics and it's very difficult for me to judge what went wrong. I don't know that. To me, he's slept-on because he's so talented and doesn't get all of the credit he's supposed to get.
The only reason could be politics. It can't be talent because he's got talent and he's very lyrical. Come on, he's touch notched. Why he's slept-on, I don't know. That happens to a lot of artists I follow.
Look at Skyzoo and Torae. I love all of these guys, I just don't know. A couple years ago it looked like Saigon and Skyzoo were going to be the next big thing and then all of a sudden, nothing. It's just hard for me to understand.
Lyrically, they're great. For me, it's very important when I hear a rapper or an emcee, I have to "want" to listen to them. Saigon and Skyzoo's lyrics are really good. I just don't know what went wrong.
Nefew is an international rapper who continues to make waves out in North America. Having released his Man vs. Many album in 2011 and received hip-hop co-signs by DJ Green, Dwele, and more, Nefew looks to keep a steady grip on his buzz and garner a wider range of fans.
