News: "My Time For Proving Things To My Critics Is Over"

Young Money star Nicki Minaj comes alive in the upcoming issue of VIBE where she dishes out on no longer feeling pressured by her critics and just how much of a grind it is to be a leading lady in the entertainment industry.
Based on some excerpts, Nicki admitted she used her Pink Friday 2010 debut as a prove-you-wrong LP rather than something she fully believed in.
"I felt like I had something to prove to everyone who said a female rapper could not make an album unless she was talking about her p*ssy. And so I went above and beyond to prove that I could not talk about sex and not talk about my genitalia and still have a successful album. And I proved that. And now my time for proving things to my critics is over. I don't really need to prove anything to anyone else anymore." (VIBE)
Within her feature, the rap star also spoke on laying her foot down on the industry.
"It's not hard to get your way when it's your way or the highway. People either follow suit or they're not around. I don't really like the sound of that, 'cause that sounds like a temper tantrum. I'm just very black and white when it comes to my business. There's really no gray area. I really don't have a lot of small talk with people I work with. It's pretty much let's get the job done. In the beginning, if people didn't know me they'd probably assume I wasn't smart or wasn't business savvy. But once you sit and talk to me, it's a different story." (VIBE)
With a new album in the works, Nicki fell victim to an online leak last week.
A new and unofficial track leaked to the web this week, in which the rapper appears to be channeling Barbie rather than her other male alter ego, Roman. The song is rumored to be titled "Marilyn Monroe" and features Minaj's sweeter, softer vocals instead of the rapid-fire rhymes we're accustomed to hearing from her. The song is likely unfinished, but this start certainly sounds promising. Minaj has a knack for straddling the line between hardcore rap fans and bubblegum pop lovers, with "Monroe" very clearly catering to the latter demo. (Billboard)
She recently decided to push back her Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded's release date to the spring.
"New Album Date: April 3rd. Pink Friday: ROMAN RELOADED. But have no fear. Tons of surprises before then ;). Love Always, HB," she tweeted January 20th.
"Lmaoooooooooooooooooo. I'm crying" (Nicki Minaj's Twitter)
The new VIBE is slated to hit shelves next week.
