With the 54th Grammy Awards ceremony just a day away, Roc Nation protege J. Cole has reflected on going for "Best New Artist" and how it is a toss-up for who will ultimately walk home wiht the gold.

Acknowledging the honor to even be nominated, Cole said the Grammy award could easily land in any of the nominees' hands.

"The Grammy stamp is a validation on an artist. To win it would be even crazier. But the nomination is dope. Everybody wants a Grammy. Just to be nominated and have the chance to have one is incredible," he said. "This is not something I plan on doing one time. Even if I don't win, I plan on being back next year. I think it can go either way." The one thing he won't do? Write a speech. "As confident as I sound, I really don't think I'm going to win. It's cool. It's all good," he said. "Anybody can win it." This week, Grammy-winning singer Slim of R&B crew 112 told SOHH both Cole and Young Money's Nicki Minaj are deserving of the award.

"J. Cole is an amazing artist. I would love to work with him. He's a breath of fresh air," Slim told SOHH. "He's one of the cats that really does his thing. I think if he would have came out around the time I was out [in the 1990's], I think he would definitely have lasted this long. He's one of those artists I really enjoy and think he's just a breath of fresh air. And of course I like Nicki Minaj. Beautiful. It's about time there was a female to stand up and really put it down and not just be in a box. She touches on both sides of the situation. Sky's the limit is not even for Nicki Minaj. She's got the universe. I really enjoy artists who are bigger than just artists. They've become brands and then leading a legacy." (SOHH)

Recently, Nicki said she did not expect to win any trophies at the annual ceremony despite mulitple nominations.

"When I was at the Grammys last year, it was like I didn't even exist. And then to now be performing and nominated, it's a big deal," Minaj said in an interview. "I'm not going to be nervous about winning because I really don't think I'm going to win anything. The way I look at it is, I know eventually, in my career, I'm going to have Grammys. This year is just about being nominated and feeling grateful, feeling like my fans and I have come a very long way and we're just going to celebrate this moment. Nothing else matters - winning, not winning, it doesn't matter. It just matters that they get to see a girl from the hood take these steps and continue to take these steps, just with hard work." In December, J. Cole's mentor Jay-Z said he deserved to snag "Best New Artist."

"I think it's great for him, because I'm sure it's a dream of his. We grew up seeing Michael Jackson, and I'm sure he grew up seeing whatever moment stuck in his mind, so I know it's great for him to do that," Hov told MTV News following a press conference announcing a pair of charitable shows at Carnegie Hall in New York. "I think he's already won Best New Artist, to me. His journey is what I'm really excited about." (MTV)

The 54th Grammy Awards will be televised Sunday, February 12th from Los Angeles.
