[City of Dreams: Each week, SOHH asks entertainment personalities to name who they feel is the most underrated emcee in hip-hop. After Swizz Beatz gave Drag-On the title earlier this week, Boston rapper Slaine crowns AZ as SOHH Underrated.]

AZ (SOHH Underrated)

Guru and MC Shan are both legends and influences. Guru was actually a big influence on me being [that I'm from Boston], and I remember him calling me up on the phone when I was working in a mailroom back in 2001 and he really inspired me to keep going hard. Those guys are legends but I think I would have to say AZ is my pick for SOHH Underrated.

He's somebody I would say is really, really underrated. I want to try and sway away from people I am in groups with because I could say Ill Bill is extremely underrated. I would say he's one of the best lyricists of our time. But I'm in a group with him so naming somebody who I am not affiliated with, I have to name AZ.

I actually don't even know AZ. I met him once at a show. I think AZ is really underrated and in my mind he's as good a lyricist as Nas. I like his storytelling ability, his flow, his lyrics. I think AZ is a really well-rounded emcee.

I don't see a major difference between him and Nas other than Nas blew up and sold over 20 million albums worldwide and AZ never did. But AZ has that classic first album and I love his Pieces of a Man album, that's really great. I've always liked AZ and have thought he's underrated.

Slaine is an Irish-American hip hop emcee and actor. He is best known for his work in the groups Special Teamz (with Edo G, Jaysaun and DJ JayCeeOh) and La Coka Nostra (with Danny Boy, Everlast, Ill Bill, DJ Lethal and formerly Big Left). Slaine has appeared on several solo mixtapes and compilations, the Special Teamz album Stereotypez and La Coka Nostra's album A Brand You Can Trust. His A World With No Skies 2.0 debut is currently available.
