Next to a room full of money, international fame, entertaining millions of people around the world, being able to have any woman you want and your name living on decades after your death, winning a Grammy is one of the greatest things that can happen to a popular artists' career. Not only does it help boost your album sales, but it's kind of an industry stamp of approval. Think of it as the music world acknowledging that, yes, you are a great artist.
This year's Grammy nominees were made public late Thursday night, and wow, for the second year in a row, Hip Hop is leading the pack.
Adele is up for six Grammys including song and record of the year, for Rolling in the Deep, and best album, for 21. Rapper Kanye West leads the field with seven, while Bruno Mars and the Foo Fighters also have six each. Mars, also up for best song, record and album, said; "It feels incredible." British band Radiohead are up for five awards including best rock performance and song for Lotus Flower. Winners will be announced on February 12th. (BBC UK)
Cool story, bro. Glad to see Yeezy getting the props he deserves for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Hopefully if he takes home all seven of those Grammy's he'll keep it humble. Hmm ... Kayne West: The Humble Years, that'd make a great book.
Ok. Ok. Sorry geez. Yeezy seems to still be made about his situation with Common. But that aside, there are a couple of artists who felt they should have gotten some Grammy love this year. SOHH do you agree?
First up is Miguel, who took to Tweeter for a bit of e-neck rolling and finger snappin' to express his ... unhappiness with being looked over by the Grammy family.
"I'm F*cking Pissed Yo. I don't think I'm Gods gift to music but I know the Album or at LEAST Sure Thing should have been Nominated.," he tweeted early December 1st. (Miguel's Twitter)
Even Jill Scott got her e-rant on. Of course, Jill being Jill, she kept it classy. Wit' her fine a**.
I don't need a Grammy. I deserve it & I'm clear on that. The Light of the Sun was/is magical . We were lifted & filled w/ truth. I ? it.(Jill Scott's Twitter)
Don't you just love passive-aggressive anger? I feel you though. But if you really feel some kind of way about it, do like my man Ol' Dirty Bastard (R.I.P Dirt McGirt) and strong-arm the stage. F*ck that room full of stuffy adults, Wu-Tang is fo' the chillun....
ABOVE: Wu-Tang's most outspoken member reminds a room full of celebs that the Wu had the real best album that year.
Ah... the old days. Ok, enough of that nostalgic sh*t. What artists would you like to have seen nominated and do you think Miguel and Jilly from Philly were just with their remarks?
Artists and their awards are a complex thing, speaking of which, check out this new track by Gucci Mane and V-Nasty:
