NBA player Kris Humphries has finally broken his silence on his publicized split with estranged wife Kim Kardashian and what the future holds for him.
Despite the hype, Humphries claims the main focus is now on his career and immediate family.
"For me, it's just certain things happen in life and you've got to move forward," he said. "Through everything I'm just focused on family and preparing for basketball. Basketball has always been something I've taken really serious and I continue to do that and I'm just moving forward. ... I can't say for sure or not for sure [if the spotlight hurt our relationship] ... It's the only time I've been married. I've been in the NBA since I was 19 years old, but it's a different level. I'm focused on just what I can control. I don't really play into all the gossip and things that take place, but that's life. ... I've been doing a lot of things with my foundation and spending time with my family and working on my game. Hopefully I'll be on a team soon and get ready to go." ("Good Morning America")
In late November, inside sources said Humphries was looking to avoid a divorce and have their marriage annulled.
Divorce may not be in Kris Humphries' vocabulary. But annulment just might be. Humphries' rep confirms to E! News that the basketballer ex-hubby of Kim Kardashian plans to answer Kim's divorce filing not with a similar response or by refusing to sign her papers, but by filing a new batch of documents seeking instead a legal separation from his wife of just 72 days. It's a big one, actually. While a divorce would obviously dissolve the marriage, a legal separation would pave the way to totally delete it, and, if granted, could get their union annulled. Which would mean that, in the eyes of the state, Kris would still be a never-married bachelor, and Kim would have just one divorce under her designer belt. (E! Online)
Earlier the same month, Kardashian inked an open letter to fans and admitted rushing into marriage.
"Everyone that knows me knows that I'm a hopeless romantic! I love with all of my heart and soul. I want a family and babies and a real life so badly that maybe I rushed in to something too soon. ... I never had the intention of hurting anybody and I accept full responsibility for my actions and decisions, and for taking everyone on this journey with me. It just didn't turn out to be the fairy tale I had so badly hoped for. There are also reports that I made millions of dollars off of the wedding. These reports are simply not true and it makes me so sad to have to even clarify this. I'm so grateful to everyone who took the time to come to my wedding and I'll be donating the money for all the gifts to the Dream Foundation. I'm sorry if I have hurt anyone, but my dad always told me to follow my heart and I believe now that I really am." (Kim Kardashian's Blog)
Details of the divorce became public knowledge this past Halloween.
Kim Kardashian filed for divorce Monday morning, after 72 days of not-so-wedded bliss to Kris Humphries ... TMZ has learned, and now we have the documents. We're told even though the marriage was short, she is not seeking an annulment. It's a garden variety divorce, in which Kim cites "irreconcilable differences." The date of separation is listed as today, Oct. 31, 2011. According to the docs, Kim wants Kris to foot his own lawyers' fees and she'll pay hers. And, she wants the court to reject any move by Kris to get spousal support. (TMZ)
