G-Unit leader 50 Cent details his close-knit relationship with renowned producer Dr. Dre and explained why the Doc should not feel pressured to drop new records on a set schedule in the new XXL Magazine.
Along with confirming the Doc's presence on his upcoming new solo LP, Fif compared the music icon to veteran singer Sade.
"Dre helped me a lot on this record. I went to Los Angeles, was working out there for a little bit. I was working on the Detox records, right. I keep saying to Dre, I'm like, "Yo, you don't have to invent nothing. All they want is a strong version of what you gave last time." They need a new version of that. It's like Sade. She goes away for six years, and then she comes back with a new disc. You go, I love this sh*t! It reminds you of the f*ckin' sh*t that she gave you before she left. There's certain artists that have that luxury. You could go away and still be interesting enough to come for people to want to hear that effort. Dre is like that. As I'm busy telling him that, I go, "Wait, maybe I'm bugging for some of the sh*t that I've been doing." You know what I mean?" (XXL Mag)
Last week, Dre promised fans he would still continue working on Detox despite recently revealing plans to take an extended music hiatus.
"Well, right now I'm just taking a small break to come out and do some promotion with Beats but actually I'm getting back on it when I get home. It has to feel good," Dre said in an interview when asked about taking a break from music. (Time Out)
In November, Dre revealed outside of his Aftermath priorities Kendrick Lamar and Slim the Mobster, he had no other immediate music obligations.
"These are the next two artists I'm working on, Slim the Mobster and Kendrick Lamar. I think that's when I'm gonna just wrap it up for a minute because I've been working on music for 27 years now and the longest I've ever been out of the studio in 27 years has been two weeks," Dr. Dre said in an interview. "So yeah I feel like I'm gonna take a little bit of a break. I'm never gonna stop music, it's like air to me. So I'mma take a little bit of a break. Enjoy some time with the family til I get that itch to get back in." (FADER TV)
Following the Doc's remarks, Slim the Mobster spoke out and supported his boss' plans to kick back.
"For the past time that I've been around, I know for a fact that [Dre] hasn't been out the studio long. Let him have a break," Slim said in an interview. "He gave us Eminem and 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Game, he gave us so many different things in his time. There are some rappers who haven't gave us nothing. So, let the man have fun now." (MTV)
A Detox release date has not yet been revealed.
