[In recognition of anticipated sophomore albums like Drake's Take Care and Wale's Ambition dropping this month, SOHH is featuring entertainment personalities each day this week naming some of their favorite debut LP follow-ups and seeing if it survived the often-discussed "sophomore jinx". After R&B diva Syleena Johnson explained why she rolls with Eminem's Marshall Mathers LP, Detroit rhymer Big Sean reps for the recently-released album, Ambition.]
I think Late Registration is one of [the best sophomore efforts] definitely, and I also liked Wale's new album, Ambition.
I recorded a track with Wale for his second album. It was crazy, because he hit me up and it just so happened that the studio he was at was right around the corner from where I was at. We were both in New York, and he was like, "Yo, I want you to hop on my album."
I just so happened to be a block away rehearsing for my tour at the time.
He is one of my brothers, man. Wale took me on the first tour I ever went on, opening up for him. This was way back, like in 2009 or something like that.
I respect his grind and his hustle, you know? For his first album to not do so well and sell 20,000 or so records its first week, then for him to come back and sell quadruple that is really inspiring. You see the growth.
