Young Money's Nicki Minaj has proven she is a one-woman army by admitting to having written for her boss, Lil Wayne, a few years ago.
Nicki claims she initially penned a Weezy verse for Rick Ross' current "You the Boss" anthem.
"You know what's interesting about that song," Minaj said while in character as her alter ego, the Female Weezy, "Nicki originally did that song for Wayne two and a half years ago." The slow-rolling track, which is the first single off of Ross' upcoming God Forgives, I Don't, finds Minaj on the hook toasting the larger-than-life Rozay. "I'll do anything you say, anything, 'cause you the boss," Nicki sings softly. Wayne never ended up using the track, but it seemed all too perfect for Ricky. "It was just lingering, and then she gave it to Rick Ross," Lady Wayne said. "I think it's hot." (RapFix)
Around 2006, former Cash Money/Young Money affiliate Gillie Da Kid claimed he ghostwrote for Wayne's Tha Carter series.
"I penned a lot of that sh*t, they had me around there," he claimed in an interview. "They just wanted me to play the backround, pen some sh*t, gimme a check, pen some more sh*t and gimme a check. So that's what I did got my money situation right and skated. [What albums did I pen?] Tha Carter 1, I didn't do the Tha Carter 2. I wasn't even there for that." (Hip Hop DX)
Last year, R&B star Rihanna talked about Minaj writing for her.
"You know, I worked with her before on [2009's] Rated R and she was just writing me some really good ballads, and I couldn't wait to work with her again and finally have her on my record," Rihanna told Capital FM. "She has a great buzz and she has a 'thing' to her. She is a star and that's why people love her. She's also really entertaining with her visual as well as her lyrics, and she has a great melody. I'm really amazed that she can write like that. [Nicki] not only raps but she can write songs too...It was really easy actually. We were going back and forth with the texts on how we were going to get to do it because we were in two different places and had two opposite schedules." (Capital FM)
Outside of ghostwriting, Wayne recently reflected on Minaj's hip-hop stardom.
"I really didn't get on my knees to give praise, but then I remembered we had a crowd out there," Wayne playfully told Mixtape Daily about his concert appearance with Minaj. "I got on my knees to do something totally different, but I was like, we got a crowd out there, so let me just give praise...I promise to God, you know what I thought about? When I saw her up there just walking and everybody singing her stuff and she making all those facial expressions, I was just like, I remember watching that [Come Up] DVD ... When shorty was in the tub. I remember watching that and where she came from and just to know that not that I did that, that she did that. I mean, it's a beautiful thing." (Mixtape Daily)
