[With the new release of his Love & Rockets, Volume 1: The Transformation, rapper Murs gives you his Top 5 reasons to go out and cop his latest solo effort.]
1. James Brown Swag
Number one reason is because I work harder than any other rapper you know. I started reading more books than any other rapper each year to [remain] well educated. I run about two to four miles a day depending on what I have to do that day. Even though it was 100 degrees the other day, I still ran anyway. I feel like I'm better than almost anybody except for Tech N9ne and a handful of other artists. When you come and see my shows, I'm there sweating my a** off. I don't smoke, I don't drink and I don't whore anymore. I'm there before the show starts and after I perform, I sign as many autographs as I can until security kicks us out or the bus driver has to leave.
2. Charity Starts Here
Number two would be because it's how I make my living. Anything I make over this, you can look on YouTube, I donate to charity. I sponsor three kids in Ethiopia. I speak to local high schools. Any money that goes above my rent and my car note (I drive a Toyota Prius), goes toward something positive. Your money is not going to waste. Your money is not being wasted. I've been doing charities for the past two years. My wife is involved in a non-profit organization. There's nothing that I want that I haven't bought. So I thank my fans for making that possible.
3. Spread Love, It's The Murs Way
This album will help enhance the quality of your life. You will be guaranteed to score higher on your SAT tests. I try to put a positive message into everything. I try to actually say the word love on every song, somewhere in there. I believe in the power of repetition. As far as reaching higher, you gotta keep going higher. "Reach Higher" is a really good song. My grandfather taught me not to set limits but to just keep striving.
4. The Message
Reason number four is to let the mainstream know that positive music is a force to be reckoned with. It shows that hip-hop is a force to be reckoned with too. There's a really strong message in the song "Animal Style". It's about gay teen suicide, a huge issue. When people make someone feel bad about a lifestyle they choose to lead or the lifestyle that has chosen them [and the struggle is so wrenching] that they want to hurt themselves, it's not good. I believe in a collective. Whether you agree with homosexuality or not, it's still bad to make someone want to kill themselves.
5. Why? Why Because...
And reason number five, most importantly, is because I Love You.
You Decide. Will you purchase Love & Rockets, Volume 1: The Transformation?
